look at that: ATB @ Nocturnal 2010, opening with Ecstasy

I understand why he opens with it, but this is his third (possibly 4th or 5th) time he's opened with ecstasy at an insomniac party. Thats not even speaking for when he plays a club gig for Giant.

He's also been doing the "till I come" sample throughout his sets for YEARS.

Of course it doesn't help that I'm not a fan of "Ecstasy". I'm a much bigger fan of Let U Go, I Don't Wanna Stop, Long Way Home, etc. Yeah, I know it's personal preference, but still.

i will say this though, as much as his dj skills suck, it was still a pretty fun set..definitely better than anything you hear at a club with top 40's.

Agreed..... Clubbing in SoCal wouldn't be as horrible if all club dj's were required to play sets that were similar to ATB's on Saturday. So yeah, all in all his set wasn't "that bad," and like I said earlier, most of his set was pretty decent. But in the end he has to be held to a higher standard for an event like Nocturnal. Especially when his mediocre set stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the other sets of the night....... If he had played an earlier set (before Simon Patterson perhaps), his booking might not have been as big of a issue for many people.....

Here's two of the video clips I took from the night ->

I think people trying to justify (or whatever you'd like to call it) ATB's set to that of a Southern California top 40 club DJ is pretty ridiculous, especially such an established DJ/Producer... I don't know, maybe I don't get it... Or I missed something :/

You definitely missed something....... Read from about 15 posts back..... Neither I nor the other poster is trying to hold ATB to the same standard as a SoCal top 40 club dj; we are holding him to the standard of a top trance dj who is a regular on the festival/club circuit.

If you read the OP's comments, my comments, and his response to my comments, he still thinks ATB's set wasn't as good as it should have been, and that it was inappropriate for Nocturnal Festival. My posts also clearly support this same point of view. He simply made a side comment that went off on a tangent, which tried to make the point that ATB's "ty" set wasn't as bad as most of the garbage that is being played in SoCal Clubs, and relatively speaking, the set wasn't as bad as we expected (minus the obvious ups), and it wasn't as bad as what we're normally forced to listen to when we go out (to non-edm clubs). I think he is doing less justifying of ATB's sub par set, and more "looking on the bright side things could be a lot worse." Which got me thinking again about EDC's main stage this summer and all of the music that was performed there......

@trance_seeker

Were you the guy with the small video camera that was filming almost the entire time during Markus's set? I'm pretty sure I was RIGHT next to you, cause it looks almost like the same vantage point that I had.

If you saw a tall, reddish-haired guy with a beard and a purple shirt acting like an idiot near you, it was probably me. :P

If I'd known that was you, I'd have said what's up. Your videos of EDC had me in awe, and I didn't even go. I felt like I was there! Major props for taking the time to record so many great videos.

I probably was me but I don't remember seeing your shirt you posted earlier in the thread. It was so packed in the front I could have been right next to you and not known it though. I was too focused on trying to stay away from all of the shirtless sweaty guys in front of me. Please don't fall down on me and use my shirt as a towel! I just remember those people with the weird rubber beanie hat things with the little spikes and some girl with glasses in a white and green stripped shirt next to me. It was my first time going to Nocturnal so I wanted to take some videos to remember the night. I didn't mean to take so many of Markus, but he's been one of my favorite DJs for the longest time. I'm going to Monster Massive for Gareth Emery and Digweed so maybe I'll bump into you there.

Sorry, I don't remember. I had to hurry up and drink my drinks before leaving the VIP area to get there so it's a little hazy. You would have to be a hot girl or have a weird beanie thing on your head for me to remember. ;)

I was browsing around youtube for Noc vids and came across this song I remember hearing that night.. Can someone ID it for me? I posted it up in the Unknown Tracks discussion board but nobody responded yet..
