Yeah, I understood, and the long post wasn't aimed at you, who havn't really been arguing with me, but more generally at the people out there who are very interested in it.

I don't think its important to know (in this case) how we got here to know how things are now. Mostly because we can't know how we got here, and it wouldn't really make a difference to the question of how things are now...

you can even study human beings without 'knowing' that we evolved- sure evolution is interesting, but yeah... :p
evolution is a bit different than big bang since there's a fair bit of 'evidence' which leads us to believe its probably true, but at the same time, does it make that much difference for us now, or does it just settle that little voice in people which yearns for that metaphysical "Meaning", which god/s have filled in people throughout time?

I guess it's also a lot about how human minds are inherently curious. I wouldn't absolutely ditch philosophical pursuits; whereas, as you claim, they do not have any direct "practical" purpose, advantage or utility - they offer the opportunity of self-introspection and actually knowing who we are and what we're capable of.

Evolution for instance, it tells you about the inherent equality of life in the sense that whatever has evolved enough to survive on the planet, from us humans to bacteria - are equally successful life-forms. We may be the most complicated organisms, but we aren't "better" as many would like to believe.

It is why I think, venturing to certain philosophical sides, pondering and asking questions eventually leads you to respect and value life, realize the potential of your existence and try to harmonize with those around you, ultimately, if you realize it.

Btw, just to clarify, not an attack on your beliefs or anything. =) Just read this and was all *jumps in* xD

yeah you misunderstood a little, I completely believe in philosophy, rational consideration, and exploration, but I think it should be used to solve practical problems. My suggestion was that creationism etc is not practical because it cannot be known, and will not lead to useful realisations :)

I dont disagree with you, and feel free to jump in! :)

I can't even imagine how frustrating it is to have such a brilliant mind trapped in such a useless body.
