My best friend in grad school is, oddly enough, a bible literalist. She's already made clear in a conversation that she believes the Tower of Babel really existed and explains the diversity of languages in the world - and I just think it's astonishing that a Master in linguistics never noticed how unlikely (not to say downright impossible and superfluous) the myth is.

It really happened dammit! It's all real! This guy explains it well..

I don't care what anyone says but the Qur'an has many amazing things written in it that have stood the test of time and even disproved "science" itself (well by definition that's impossible, which is why I put that in quotes, but what I mean is that there were/are verses in the book that scientists once "disproved" but upon further research or attaining new information they realize their original "proofs" were incorrect). There's also MANY things written in there that people have not know for over a milennium but are finding out within the past hundreds of years or so. Stuff like:

- The mountains extend deep into the earth (they're like ice-bergs in that only their tips are showing)
- The mountains help disperse earthquakes
- Gender is determined from the sperm, not the egg
- The moon actually slightly bobs up and down in its orbit (not known by many, but ok i'll admit that it could have been possible that many Greek scientists could have figured this out back in the day... i'll give you that).
- Milk comes from the cow's blood and excrements
- That the universe is expanding (yeah... imagine people thinking that over 1,000 years ago)
- That the bones in the fetus form BEFORE the flesh does, not at the same time or vice-versa
- That the front of the head (the cerebrum) is responsible for sinful behavior (
- That the chest contracts as you climb higher in altitude.
- Every planet and even the sun moves along in its own orbit (keep in mind over 1,000 years ago most people thought that everything revolved around the earth. MAYBE there were a few at that time that thought the planets revolved around the sun, but the Qur'an takes it one step further to even mention that the sun itself has its own orbit too)
- That even the fetus can laugh in cry while in the womb? (YES, search that up)

I know I may receive a lot of bashing for this, but until someone comes up with a better explanation of how this was written in the Qur'an 1,400 years ago, I'm going to believe in God.

Yes... guessing! That's how they did it! Really? Do you know what the chances are of getting all of these right with none wrong? The list continues by the way, and we are STILL discovering new things... And by wrong, don't point out other things that may seem "morally" wrong, but point out actual scientific errors that we can debate like human adults.

You mean like scientists who actually know what they're talking about?

So salt water and fresh water really don't mix?

Yeah, nothing wrong :p

Moon comes up at night. It goes down, in the day. It just happens. You can't explain that.

Whoever wrote the Qur'an sounds a lot like Bill O'Reilly.

Lira
You know, I just read the other day Bill O'Reilly studied in Harvard. He's got to be pretending to be that dumb, like Gretchen Carlson.

I haven't read the Qur'an, but simply posting a list of things that were right in it doesn't mean that everything in the Qur'an is right. That throws your "what are the chances of all of these being right and none of them wrong" argument out the window.

Secondly, your argument not only implies the existence of God, but also that he/she/it communicates with humans and tells them what to write about him, which makes you doubly wrong :p
