Ray Comfort is such an idiot, I truly admire these guys for managing to keep their composure for a whole hour of Ray's stupidity.

Why address guys like Ray Comfort at all? Seriously, an entire hour devoted to a joker like that? I say ignore them and let them wallow in cultural backwaters as the rest of us move into the future.

I would tend to agree with you if clowns like him didn't sway otherwise reasonable people to the same ideologies. Most atheists - who didn't have atheist parents, of course - were believers at one time. Every former believer sees the light at some point, and it usually requires some serious internal mental struggles. That's why I think it's important to not only bring such absurdities to light, but to challenge them; force the pious - if they're at all capable of being forced - to critically think about what it is they're advocating. Not everyone conveniently settles on atheism in the comfort of their own homes by watching youtube videos and browsing wiki or talkorigins. Some need to be verbally and intellectually pushed around. If we let them wallow in their own stupidity, they'll undoubtedly get lots of uneducated, gullible schmucks to join them, and then we're stuck with moral, political and intellectual obstacles like the religious right. :p

Fundies say the darnest things" is a site i visit once in a while, after ive gotten too optimistic about life in general, and i need something to bring me down to the harsh, cruel reality in which people are stupid, ignorant and proud of it. Its basically an archive of retarded thoughts people post online. Today i happened upon this gem

[Question - Explain how genetics supports Darwin's theory.?]
Best Answer - Chosen by Voters
It doesn't at all. If I cut off my arms because I no longer need them, my kids are not going to be born without arms. If I convince all my kids to cut off their arms because they don't need them their kids will not be born without arms. Even if my entire familly has been cutting off their arms for the past 999,999,999,999 billion years, guess what? Their kids will still be born with arms!!! The reason is we all have the genes to produce arms, some may be short or long or small or large, but we are gonna be born with arms. I don't care how much time the evolution religion gives it, humans will never be armless. We will never produce lobster claws to replace the arms because we don't have the genes for lobster claws.

Also this, relevant since even in this thread there are people that dont really understand the meaning of the word theory...you know who you are. If youre feeling stupid right now...good!

The "proof" of human evolution is tenuous at best and there's a reason it's called a theory. If "informed" people would only admit that, the other side would relax their position. It's been my experience that those pushing hardest for the acceptance of "evolution" are almost exclusively homosexuals bent on "disproving" the bible and removing the foundation of society's values (especially that part that doesn't accept homosexuals). I don't know if it was really all of us who you mentioned or some other people on other forums who influenced you, but this is really cool to read. :)
See, Brian? While it's futile to argue with Ray Comfort and try to change his own stupid unreasonable beliefs, there are people watching who aren't stupid, just misled, who can be convinced by logic, reason and scientific data. That's why dealing with Banana Man is worthwhile.

Absolutely. I've named you guys specifically because I've had discussions (and sometimes lurked discussions between you and others who shared my beliefs at the time) with all of you in the past, as well as others in the TOTA section of the forum over the years.
Also, a good personal friend not from this forum who knew just the right questions to ask me (rather than criticizing my beliefs outright) to get me reading the Bible for answers. Once I started reading start-to-finish (ironically, in an attempt to cement my faith) I was able to decide for myself that it was all a load of . I made it a 3rd of the way through before I put it down one day and said to myself "How did I ever believe this ?" and I haven't read it since.

I have heard it said that one of the quickest routes to atheism is reading the whole Bible.

That's pretty awesome. :)
Just curious, what sort of questions did that guy ask you?
