So, systems like GPS’ and satellites just happen to work based precisely on calculations from relativity? That’s an extraordinary coincidence don’t you think? Time dilation has also been proven in experiments with aircraft.
Sure, something may come along in the future that alters relativity in the way relativity improved on newton’s gravity laws, but the theories of relativity are proven in as much as we can ever prove anything. |
He just needs to rap his head around the fact a Theory in Science is not the same as the definition of the word Theory. I think you have tried valiantly to explain, even I learned so extra information from your Post's.
Once he understands the difference in Theories he will understand. |

| I’d be a little wary of paying too much attention to anything I say about science, im a complete science numpty! |

Not as much as I am, and you have some very valid points with the use of everyday practical demonstration of the 'Theory of Relativity'. ;)
(even though it may be common logic amongst some) it held it's weight in this discussion. |

I think that was one of the most pretentious and condescending posts, by one of the least intelligent posters I've ever seen on TA. If you've ever taken a physical science class, you'd know that a theory is only as good as the best one before it. Nothing has been proven beyond the shadow of a doubt, so accepting it as truth is not essentially warranted.
BTW, maybe you can "rap" your head around the fact that the word "wrap" is spelled with a "w." So before criticizing my understanding of a word, how about you learn to spell them first.
If you look at the physical science community over the past 50 or even 10 years, there's been numerous "theories" that have been proven to be wrong. Yes, right now it appears as if there's no way these "theories" could possibly wrong, as they fit best to answer all of our questions in a neat and tidy way, but that does not mean that they are absolute truths, and that there is no way that anything will ever prove them wrong.
That being said, as I said before, I do believe in the theories of evolution and relativity because they're the most logical theories that we possess at this point. |

Hmmmm...I see a lot of people on my side of the coin and I wasn't being rude. You just don't understand that a Theory in Science is different that was the definition of a Theory is. Because if you did we wouldn't be having this conversation. And I think you are less intelligent than myself so I'm sorry I got second place. We'll try harder next time. |

Relativity hasn't exactly been proven. It's just the currently accepted theory which fits best. That doesn't necessarily mean it's true. |
source to this please? |

Remember back when I said that I was playing devil's advocate and that I believed in everything that PKC was saying? Remember when you assumed that I was arguing on my behalf, and not on behalf of the minority in this case?
Probably not. |

I find such positions a little absurd and completely lacking in utility. I would be interested though on what you think has ever been “proven”, and why working technology is not sufficient evidence of proof? |

Just read what I actually wrote and then stop talking. It's annoying. |

*SPOILER ALERT* I'm not arguing in defense of religion, or in denial of science.
Come on now, please, has everybody forgot that I'm on your side? There's been tons of theories that have been proven wrong after previously being widely accepted as being absolute truths. We don't know how science will advance in the next 10, 20, 30 years, so it'd be silly to say now that what we believe to be true can never change, and will always remain true. I don't see how that's so hard to understand. Yes, I believe in relativity. No, I don't believe that relativity will never, ever, in the future of science, ever be disproven. |

I will re-read your Post later, perhaps I missed something but I suspect a contradiction in there. |

lol nice comeback. I know it's hard to make yourself look better by trying to desperately make up for looking like an idiot through words, so I understand you using pictures instead. It's just too bad you can't use crayons on the internet!
And I'll save you some time, it's the first thing quoted on page 8. Now shut up, please. |
