David Robinson won his first championship when he was 34. Just because one guy is 26, and one guy is 32, doesn't mean the younger player is better or more valuable. When Shaq and Kobe won their rings in 2000, 2001, and 2002, most people would have agreed that they'd rather have Shaq than Kobe, even though Shaq was 7 years older. Many people still deem Kobe to be one of the best, if not the best player in the NBA, and he's 32 as well.
You said Dirk doesn't show up in the playoffs. He's proving you wrong right now, and if you look at his career playoff statistics, he's been proving you wrong all along. |

Huh? Most people? Yeah that's why his own team chose to retain Kobe and let him go in 2004.

He's 32, but he has played so many playoff games that he has an extra 3 seasons worth of wear and tear on his legs compared to Dirk... not including 2 runs at the Olympics too. People wouldn't choose Kobe as even a top 5 choice to build a team around right now, even though he is still great.

So what about the 10 playoff years before this one when he didn't show up? Stop sweeping that under the rug. Yeah, wow... Dirk's making me eat a big plate of crow right now because he's tearing up an old ass Laker team in the 2nd round that could barely beat New Orleans with their 2nd best player David West out of that series. Dude stop trying to flex your NBA knowledge on everyone in here. You keep failing to take perspective and history into consideration with your arguments, and rely too heavily on stats. |

Why keep statistics then if they are so irrelevant?
Also, Shaq won MVP in all 3 of those championships. There was more to it than the Lakers just not wanting him anymore and letting him go. |

Hey... Strawmy McStrawman... I never said stats were irrelevant. I said YOU are relying on them too much to make your arguments and it's not working. |

What are you talking about? I said that I'd rather have Dirk on my team than anybody else, and you're trying to prove me wrong? How can you prove my opinion to be incorrect? I was simply stating why I would pick Nowitzki as opposed to say D Rose or CP3. You obviously wouldn't, so there's not really much left to talk about with that subject.
If you inherit an NBA team, please feel free to not build it around Nowitzki, I promise not to be offended. :p |

What? I'm talking about the statistics you keep using to try and back up your opinion, not the actual opinion itself. For example, you feel vindicated in your choice because Dirk is killing it right now... but you want to ignore the fact that for the 10 years in a row before 2011 he was a playoff no-show. But none of that matters to you. Your mind is made up and that's that, no matter how much perspective someone brings that you hadn't thought about.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to watch my Celts experience another crushing defeat. |

They're looking good right now. I don't know if they can keep it up for 4 quarters though. They're getting all their points from their oldest players. Also, isn't it sad seeing Shaq lumber up and down the court? Poor guy should hang em up after this season. |
