Yeah Bush won in 2004 after Saddam was nabbed, but that was more because John Kerry was the best the Democrats could come up with. 18 months prior to 2008, it was a foregone conclusion that Hillary was the next president. ;)

generally any military victory = re-election, and this is the ONLY thing that US has 'done right' in this conflict (and yeah, took 10 years etc)-- US citizens tend to gloss over the bad for the good, and military matters have always trumped all else-

I don't live in the US, but if history continues, Obama will be re-elected...

whole thing's stupid anyway. Not only is Bin Laden now a martyr (making him way more important than a living leader who had to be in hiding all the time, and probably had little to do with anymore), but it seems like too little too late really- Its nice that the US can have a little fist-pump over this, but it doesn't mean anything... :(

History also says no president has ever been re-elected with the unemployment rate over 8%. And we've had way more than that for the entirety of Obama's presidency, and that won't change any time soon.

True, this is a good military victory, but the other side of that coin is that 60% of military deaths in Afghanistan have come while Obama has been president. And the intel that made getting Bin Laden possible came from information obtained starting 4 years ago using the interrogation methods Obama railed against from prisoners at Guantanamo, which he wanted to shut down. So I wouldn't count on Bin Laden's death being enough for re-election. It is awesome though... and I'm glad Obama green-lit the thing. For real, I watched him speak today for the first time ever without wanting to jam an icepick into my brain. :p

Your intuition serves you well.

They did keep it brief though.

Moongoose
Im just worried that this wont escalate terror attacks as some sort of retaliation.

Glad to see the ****** is dead, but some people seem to think that just because hes dead terrorism is over. Kill one figurehead, another crazy person is ready to take his place.

LOL he is doing better than your savior Reagan was at the same time in his first term and he went on to almost sweep his re-election.

Paradox Lost
Don't you hate it when you're trying to sleep, and there's a special forces operation designed to eliminate the figurehead of a global terrorist organization going on next door?

Man Inadvertently Live Tweets Osama Bin Laden Raid

An IT consultant who tried to take a break from the rat race by visiting the city of Abbottabad in Northern Pakistan, has just found he had a ringside seat to one of the biggest counter-terrorism events in modern history: the death of Osama bin Laden.

It was about 1am local time or 12 hours ago, when world-weary Sohaib Athar tweeted under the handle @ReallyVirtual: “Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event),” and “Go away helicopter – before I take out my giant swatter.”

He then describes hearing a “huge windows shaking bang.” In discussions with other Twitter users he goes on to impart that the helicopter is gone and that a few others online are saying that one of the now multiple helicopters “was not Pakistani.”
