Appeasing sensitivities vs. transparency? It's not like the fantatics are going to hate us any more than they already do. The White House needs to get organized over there. Yesterday it was "we're definitely releasing photos", and today it's "no". Bin Laden was armed, then he wasn't. He uses his wife as a human shield, then he didn't. They shot her in the head, then it was "we shot her in the leg when she ran at the SEALS". We were in a firefight, then a Pakistan official says today there were no shots fired. WTF. Get your messaging together! |

I think the fact that the Taliban are demanding the US produce the photo is the best argument as to why they shouldn't |

apparently his wife is alive now and pakistan hospital is treating her as well as now bin laden's children saw him get shot, who the hell knows anymore.

Actually, it's much more complicated than this: It's a "us vs them" issue, in which they see the US as a holier-than-thou domineering power that wants to push values unto us that are alien to our culture and that Americans themselves can't follow. On the one hand, it's nice to criticise ideas whatever their origins are. However, I feel that most of the time it's just our own nationalism rearing its ugly head. |

| I can't say I ever really liked Bin Laden but I always root for the underdog. Maybe I've seen to many Hollywood movies. His original motivations were stop the western powers from supporting middle eastern dictatorships. Obviously his means to an end weren't justified. |
