PS. I'm looking forward to seeing Drumcell at Sullivan after missing out on him at DEMF.. Let's do this people!

Nice set. The number of untitles is a bit woah. Man has the hook up.

Lenny is a dope dj and he's been in the New York scene for ages. He runs a label called Thema that has some solid productions....but they lean more on the deep, dubbier side of techno. I collaborated with him on a show in March...we had DVS1 and Silent Servant at National Underground...not sure if anyone here made it there, but he played that night.

I was there! Pretty sure Chaska and xpand3r were too.

I keep forgetting this is TranceAddict. When are we starting TechnoStorm.com?

It's crazy how many locals we have that don't play around here. But it's a huge city, and it's not like there's a directory of all the music producers and where they live. If they're not really friends with the promoters I could see how this could happen. Plus not every producer is trying to hustle as a local DJ.

As big a place as NY is, the techno community is small and everyone knows each other... It's very cliquey and kinda funny, so much politics and talking, apparently some didn't get the memo that we're not in high school anymore.

Syed will be playing at Erratic next friday, headlining & celebrating his bday. Great line-up of locals that night, and best of all, its free ALL NIGHT! If I hadn't had tickets for Guy J, I would be there from start to finish. Fortunately, since Sully ends at 4...I'll have something to swing by afterwards.

Honestly, I don't think this is the place to be if you really want to do your thing. The genre is best well-known in Europe and that's where most of the people flock to because they have a lot more opportunities and events to show what they've got, imo. Best of luck to Subfactual on their tour. Hope they don't have too much fun and stay out there :toothless

I saw this and it looks awesome, I'm def swinging by after Guy J. Some of my favourite locals in one night :D

I agree but not completely with what you say though... A big reason why people find better opportunities elsewhere is because of the lack of support here. Just ask around: where are people going tonight? I'm sure a lot will be going to Verboten for names that have already been here this year. Or Frank and Tony at Cielo, who played last month, and frankly, I find horribly boring. If I go out, I'll be going to Twice as Proper, Boston producer Monktec (any serious techno head should check this kid out) and relatively new name in Detroit Asher Perkins are playing with Craft and Shadi. Banging techno for $10 admission. I don't need to spend $30-50 admission to see big names playing mediocre music that I need to do K to somewhat enjoy.
Derek Plaslaiko moved, Function too, Tony Rohr rarely plays here and he lives in Brooklyn, Camea and Tim took Clink to Berlin etc etc etc. It doesn't stop there because I've heard of at least 3 more locals thinking about making the move (one that will surely impact the future of the NY techno scene if it happens). No one here really cares and that's why people leave. Let me clarify though: I def have seen a lot more collaboration among the people that throw the smaller parties like Sama, Erratic, Trilogy etc and I think it's awesome. But check out who plays at the bigger events? Something to think about. I understand that some have their own residents, but a little support every once in a while for others that are making a name for themselves elsewhere doesn't hurt. Our talent is leaving us and people seem to be ok with it. I also understand that it's a business, but last time I checked it's also an art community, dammit.

I'm willing to help fill the void :D

So much is taking my time away from me, I'm ready to quit my job, delete all my "friends" and take my equipment to my mom's basement and make and mix techno all day.

I kind of want to find a techno roommate. I need to move and I have a retarded amount of studio equipment that needs to come with me. It's a shame I never have time to use it.

As much as it pains me, I think I need to make my way to Brooklyn. It seems if I want to collaborate with other people, that's where most everyone else is. And a lot of the parties are taking place there now too.

Cocoon style techno is house now, unfortunately. Caught her at Cocoon Miami, snoooooooze.

Caught her at DEMF, snoooze. Less O's, I think she felt she had to play a little techno since it was detroit, but still mostly snooze house.
