skalariak, first of all, the whole ADID event (from start-to-finish) is controlled by the one and only puppeteer himself, Lee. Second, all I have to say is, if you haven't had the blessing of attending one of these parties yet, you're missing out on a lot- I'd recommend you don't miss out on the next event which isn't too far away.

I have never said this about any party before but it truly is a journey you have never experienced before, I'll guarantee you that. And lastly, idk what you've listened to bc the only set that comes close to what you may hear at an ADID party is the set which initiated it all (All Day I Dream of Her)- look it up, if you haven't heard it, and enjoy.

hope to see you at the backyard on sunday.

Holy , just noticed the sound card Chris is using, the little USB Fireface, is $1200.
It better have ing amazing latency. The problem I've always had is USB has a minimum 10ms polling delay, each way. That's 20ms roundtrip, unless they're doing some really weird . I tried using Ableton through the send/return of my Xone with my Audio 8 and the delay was just too high.

edubbz, you going to the BK ADID? No one from TA was on the boat one :/ (well I did see yumpop :wtf: )
edubbz
My cheap ass didn't feel like paying that much for the boat party, which I now regret. Whatever! I'll be at BK for sure tho, just got my tix.

Come through.
lounger540
Yes, I had a friend in town that weekend so the boat was a 'special occasion' thing. Coincidently the same friend is back in NY the weekend of the BK one. I'm 99% sure we'll be going. See you there!

but, indeed, that's the weekend that's going to break me (my wallet). and let's not forget about trilogy, hosting saunderson!

the only thing i've committed to is ADID

I'm contemplating the SRB visionquest supplemental facts party that's a juicy line up but spread out with so many acts. No way I'm paying for the yacht though

I like the saunderson party but i don't want to bleed into ADID. That would probably be the night of if I decide to indulge. I have the most fun at ADID they've been nothing short of spectacular probably one of the best crowds I've seen at an outdoor party this whole summer

edit-and yes i know this is the 'techno' thread but everything in here has been basically NON-TRANCE. Talk about a thriving thread that should really be more open to the main part of the NY forums. I relate this thread to anything non-trance which in my opinion has had better parties, less teenie boppers, more adult fun types of crowds. as i grow older in my grandpa complex I'm more then happy to express my distaste in a lot of things...simply just dgaf

Great video, but it raises more questions.

If he's using 4 channels to the Xone from Traktor, what's he using the faders and knobs on the K2's for? He has EQ and Volume on the Xone already.

He said he's running the Maschine through the AUX (which I hate because you lose the Xone's filter on those channels) but then he's using them as effect send/returns for two different effects. Unless he doubles up on one channel where the Maschine and an effect run out the same channel (since the outs are software mapped you can do this) but they'll share the volume and EQ on the mixer so you'd have to be careful when you're using the effect and what the volume of machine is. Unless he uses the other Faderfox controller to control the volume of Maschine internally and leaves the AUX channel on 0db and also controles Abletons effects channel with software.

They really need a 5 or 6 channel Xone 92 with two more AUX's with so many people running synths or drum machines with their 4 Traktor decks. Or you need to upgrade to a studio mixer with multiple return buses.

It's nice to know him and I have a very similar setup :) Minus the second laptop and faderfox and X1s and a F1 instead of K2s. With a single laptop I have to switch between Maschine and Traktor though thankfully Maschine has most stuff on the LCD if you get good with navigating the menus. I actaulyl wouldn't want to have to rely on 2 laptops. I would just run an iPad as a second monitor for Ableton. You could use it as a touch screen controller then too, or just map everything in an app Like TouchAble and just uses Spaces if you need to switch to regular ableton screen. Though Traktor fails hard when switching spaces in fullscreen mode and comes back black.

I like the way he has his Maschine setup. Instead of having each bank being a kit he pulls it apart so each bank is a type of sound. That would make finding the current sounds really easy and make sure you don't run two kicks by accident across kits.

Good find Seb! I want to go home and play now.

I will need to read this again and process it correctly when I get home.

I can make you a diagram if you like :p

A lot of it boils down to, how do you want to route your outs and where do you want to control the volume, software or on the hardware mixer.

The fact he's using send effects makes it a lot more complicated, but I agree with him, Traktors effects have flaws with the wet/dry mix. Certain effects actually increase or decrease the gain, and there's a sweet spot in the Dry/Wet value where it doesn't happen.
Also some effects do different things if you turn off the effect vs turning out the routing of a channel into an effect. Some will fade the effect out, others will jsut cut. They all have their weird nuansinces. It's best to learn a few you like and learn parameter curves. Like the delay for example uses a rotarty to control the speed, but it's not clearly marked where each speed is. You literally have to remember how far your knob has to be to get a value of 1/4 notes over 3/8 triplets. It's kind of a pain in the ass and this is where the "skill" comes into the picture of being a Traktor DJ, it's not always as easy as it looks.

I get what you're saying, this happens a lot with producing when an effect or another instrumented is layered over, the gain usually decreases on a previous track/instrument if you're not using a compressor or similar device.

The bottom line is that it does take a lot of skill and knowledge to make everything sound good and mesh together well. Obviously mr Liebing has mastered this a long time ago..
