You're essentially saying that atheists are intelligent and rational, and that all religious people are not. Which is the aim of all anti-theists. You seek to make religious people look stupid for some reason, I'm not really sure why. Maybe you think you'll convert them by insulting their intelligence? I just don't get what your aim is here.

One can be religious and still believe in science. One can be focused on science and still believe in a higher power. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Sure, a lot of religious people may reject the science you and I hold as a given, but that doesn't mean they all do. The fact that you lump every single religious person in the world together under this irrational nut job stereotype is just rather tiring. It's what Eric has been trying to say I think. You can't just talk about science and make your claims, you always have to throw in insults towards religion. Most religious people are happy going on with their lives and not worrying about what atheists think, but it seems like many anti-theists want nothing more than to make religious people look bad, but why?

What exactly do you get out of criticizing religion exactly? I would really like to hear an answer to that question. I'm not even saying this in opposition to you. I agree with your beliefs.

Essentially, the point is that the lot of anti-theists who post regularly on this board, and even those who don't, basically have a goal of making religious people look stupid, when your goal should be nothing more than spreading knowledge. You can say everything that you want to say about science without throwing in a "and religious people are stupid for not believing this!" at the end.

the greatest part is that because we are attacking them for the way the conduct themselves they think we're defending religion. To them its a religious war right now :P

I'm happy a few people understand what I'm trying to get across

I'm also trying to say that there is no difference between a bible thumper and an anti theist. You are the same bloody nutjob, just on different sides of the spectrum. Almost like Milhouse and Milhouse from shelbyville.

you guys are the same. I'm not ting on Science. I'm just ting on those crazy Jehovah Witness' of Science who take theories that are half worked on and run with them into Religious Sector and try to fire them off as ammo.
.

nope.

one is from a position that requires proof as it makes assertions. The other is from a position that acknowledges the current evidence. Very different. Atheism does not discount god. It is open to change.

Religious people are intelligent and rational right up untill they start ignoring facts. I don't get anything out out of criticizing religion, I'm just waiting for someone to give me some proof of what they are saying. I'm not aggressive with religious people, I try and stay polite and offer explanations to any questions they might have. The problem is they come into the conversation telling themselves that whatever I'm gonna say is impossible because Religion and God says so. You can't have a healthy conversation that way and it's frustrating.

You're still blanketing the whole of all religious people under your "ignorant and irrational" stereotype. You're basically insulting billions of people with your arguments.

Well because Religion by it's very nature IS ignorant and irrational. It usually assumes that all the other opposing religions are wrong, which is very pretentious if you ask me. What makes Christians right? Muslims, because they were born in another Country, are automatically wrong and going to Hell?

And the argument has now turned from pro-science to anti-religion. See how easy that was? ;)

F*ck it. It goes both ways. Ask those billions of people what they think of me. They will say the exact same thing.

Well I'm just following the course, captain.

You surely don't know that.

Nobody is arguing for religion here. That's not the course at all. People are essentially arguing for tolerance between the two, but you're still on the anti-religion soapbox.

is it possible , assuming you aren't a hypocrite, to follow a religion , lets say the big 3 , and not be irrational and or ignorant. And by ignorant, i mean in a way that isn't made self aware unlike say how a scientist would claim they are ignorant because they know they don't know.

if so which one and how ? I've really had a hard time thinking of one example. They are based on old texts that can't change. It does not adapt to new information and at a certain point requires a strong mastery of self delusion.
