Lift heavy! 6-8 reps should be your limit (where u can't do another) for each set, and you'll get there with these. |

Haha, I'm only 67kg though so it's not so impressive.
My last dead lift session was (after a quick warmup):
155kgx6
125kgx7
115kgx8
Done and dusted for work out.
All my back, forearms, legs worked out hard.
Sadly I need to buy more weights because I cannot physically fit anymore on the bar I have at home.
I've not held a gym membership in 2-3 years and I've never been stronger. I'm pretty much at my natural limit though as I struggle with anything much heavier and I don't want to have a diet to take over my life or hit drugs either.
I'm relatively strong and eat well though that's mainly because I want to have a long illness free life.
Honestly, with dead lifts you just need to make sure you compress the out your core when you lift. You'll be very suprised how heavy you can go.
Build it up slowly though, and when you warm up alwasy do 2 or 3 reps of 80% your max just to get a feel of how you are that day. You'll know soon from those tester lifts if you are gonna hit a personal best that day or if you should ease back or maybe even skip that session all together. |

Me < I both do a lot of Yogaish stuff but i will push myself as im lazy naturally (laziest capricorn I've ever met so i'll do stuff like balance on top of swiss balls and do yoga on top of them etc (keep meaning to take a video but im terrified someone will try it at home) And I'm either dancing to trance as my brain just goes intro a trance with it. At first the gym i go to threw a fit about it and i still have to be careful as i cant hurt myself but i know NO ONE else can do this stuff. |

You can dead lift almost 350lbs... holy . I am at like just over half my body weight (so like 115lbs?). Do you use a strap? I can see myself lifting a bit more if I had a strap (also I need to work out my core way more cause thats where I feel weakness in terms of lifting style when I dead lift), but damn thats pretty intense for a normal work out.
I usually do 115lbsx8x3. |

Honestly, I think dead lifts is all about mental strength.
I used to lift max about 50-60kg for fear of hurting my back. Then one day I thought, let's see how strong I am.
I make sure to literally squeeze the hell out of my core, take a huge breath first and compress, compress, compress. Head up, back straight and push through your heels as you straighten up.
I found that I actually could do 80xkgs comfortably. Then I just upped it by 5kgs per week to where I am now.
The only aid I use for anything is gloves for deads (gardening gloves) that's only because my hands get horrific callus on.
Next time your in session on dead lifts just rack up your usual weight and try taking a huge breath and squeezing the life out of your core just before you lift then press through your legs hard and straighten.
Once you have the technique down just try some heavier weights. Each time answer your self honestly, could I go heavier? Did I tense my body enough?
Thing is with deads is you cannot cheat on them, you can't use momentum or have a spot lift some of it for you. It's you vs gravity. They are wickedly fun once you lift heavier each week. Also knowing I can throw pretty much any fat over my shoulder several times with ease is a good confidence boost.
It will work all your body to the limit too, you'll feel almost ill after a good session (kinda like that achy coming down with the flu feeling) but you know it's just your body repairing from an awesome workout.
I dread chins, they make me want to puke. |

I also should mention that that's all I do for that work out. Deadlifts, 3 sets. Done. I do that once per week. I do chin ups once per week and dips once per week. I'll either go for a run once or play football 5 aside once a week too.
Occasionally if I feel like it I might do some other random like wall squats or get my girlfriend to jump on my back so I can squat with her.
I need to strengthen my quads but I don't have a rack and so can't safely go much over 50kg.
There is a gym at work, and sods law the only thing I want the leg press is ed.
Ah well. |

Squatting is way more fun than dead lifting imo. When I was really into it I used to squat about 315-325 (143-147kg). It's pretty cool seeing an iron bar bend a little bit over your shoulders.
I never worked too hard at dead lifts. Cleans are more effective I think. |

I dont like doing squats with out a good cage rack, cause my high school weight lifting coach used to freak us the out over how it'd instantly kill you if the bar went forward over your head... I know thats a bit paranoid, but still.
I do like squats more than dead lifts though.
I do dead lifts as part of a routine, and I do them in the middle, after having worked out my arms. I bet I could lift more if I did them first, I've never tried that. |

| If you're doing the squats right, the bar shouldn't be able to fall forward onto your neck. A lot of people do hold it at the base of their neck instead of across the back of your shoulders though. If you drop the bar, or if your legs give out, the bar should fall down your back instead of forward onto your neck. |

I'd do horrible things for a leg press machine at home... When I was in HS that was my favorite thing. I could easily press 300-400lbs... I could toe press almost 300.
Usually did reps at a lower weight though, but fast as . Good cardio on a leg press.
I love my legs. |

Yea, I hold it right above my shoulder blades, I know it cant go forward unless I collapsed forward, but still ing paranoia. Every semester, he'd just go over in extreme detail how it'd snap your neck like a chicken... :stongue: |

I know I'd end up dying doing cleans. Way too much scope for injury.
Worst case scenario with a deadlift is you drop the bar 6 inches (unless you're lifting like a reject picking up a crying toddler).
You're prob right that over all a high power squat is the best exercise lower body.
I actually reckon if you utterly savage your self once per week on squats and once per week on weighted dips, you'll end up with a great body and good strength too (so long as you don't eat like ). |
