Palms place seems like a steal right now for about $500 ish. I picked Vdara this year at $700 for 3 nights. Elara wants about $1200 and cosmo wanted like $1500+. Cosmo was definitely a steal last year. |
Palms is off the Strip though, so not very convenient without a car. Here's my booking from last year (for EDC 2012)
| quote: | | Originally posted by in2muzikk I booked at the Luxor under the EDC group rate for $116/night (inclusive of 12% tax and useless "resort fee.") |
This year, I booked the Luxor again before the EDC hotel rates came out, and it came out to $136/night (inclusive of 12% tax and useless "resort fee.)" Base rates starting Thurs night were $58/150/180/85/55, or $528 total before 12% tax and useless $18/night resort fee.
Luxor was a fiasco last year since the whole MGM resorts computer system went down for something like 4 days. I was fortunate to arrive on Wednesday and it only took 20 minutes, but people were waiting 4-5 hours to check in on Thursday & Friday. I was also fortunate that they upgraded me to a suite since there were some plumbing and AC noise issues with the room and maintenance staff were too busy to look into it. :)
The "wired internet" there is such a joke and without it there's virtually no cell reception, but the rooms are clean and the beds are soft. My reservation this year is 100% refundable up to 48 hours before check-in, so I'll keep looking around as well. Luxor is a little far south, but the shuttle picks up at Mandalay Bay and there's an awesome Irish pub right on the way between the two casinos...full Irish breakfast highly recommended! The shuttle gods were also with us on Saturday night, our driver knew all the back roads and had us at EDC in about a half hour, while other ones were stuck for an hour and a half on the freeway. Time to the Speedway mattered more on the shuttle driver than the distance over & back. :D
Edit: Since I arrived on Wednesday last year, I added in another cheap mid-week night just for a better comparison. Adding Wednesday brings the rate down to $127/night (inclusive of 12% tax and useless "resort fee.") |

Agree x1000 I thought the vibe at UMF sucked, that and the lines.
As for hotels, we just got a pretty good steal at Encore. I don't recommend paying the outrages prices for Cosmo. Unless you're getting the pool suite or a one bed suite, it's not worth it. The two bed normal rooms are generic as .
Luxor had like a 2 miles check in line, no joke. My friends stayed there last year and waited all day. They got a book of free drink coupons that we abused the entire weekend, so that might have actually made it worth while haha. |

"EDC package rates" here:
https://resweb.passkey.com/Resweb.d...ventID=10310715
Not much different than publicly advertised rates imo, but that could change over time as the casinos book up and the "EDC block" of rooms stay at the same or lower rates? Also try Vegas.com, which shows
"resort fees" by casino, they can really add up... |

Seems like all hotels had a heads up on EDC dates because they are double/triple the cost compared to other days.
Unless the strip is a must, palms place is nice and you can always use the $20 trick to get upgrade to a monstrous 1200 sq ft 1 bedroom suite.
With that said, I have friends staying at Elara, Vdara, and Flamingo. Costs ranged between 600-1200. |
