I definitly agree. personally i was thinking of getting a cd deck only becuase the tunes that arent pressed on vinyl anymore are available on cds. however i would not spin only on cd decks. Its alot more fun to spin with vinyl i think. |

Two comments...
1/ By your theory we should have stayed on horseback too? Stay true to the old traditions and horseless carraiges should never be permitted!?
2/ A close friend and diehard vinyl DJ just got back from the Winter Music Conference, said he was amazed by the number of DJ's now spinning on CDJ 1000's. He said in fact he saw more DJ's that used them in some part of their sets than not. Also interesting was that far more progressive and trance DJ's spun CD's than not, and DJ's like Nick Warren spun almost exclusively on CDJ's using the turntable platter as a convienient location to layout CD's to play!
Go figure?

| Tiesto used cds at gelredome...i see nothing wrong with it. i prefer vinyl over cds, but both is even better. |

| I started out vinyl and am LOVING it. BUt obviously, not many people have access to high quality versions of the latest songs. CD's are definitely more convenient. I wouldn't mind using them |

It's different for traveling DJs... a lot of them still play vinyl in their own countries, or atleast a mixture. Taking records abroad is a nightmare. Especially to the US so I'm told.
With regards to your 'horseback arguement', I see where you are coming from but don't think it applies 100%. I'm not in the way of progress, I just don't see CDs as progress.
It probably comes down to each individuals interpretation of the DJ. For many just the act of spinning and manipulating vinyl is the joy and the artform in itself.
I have seen a disturbing trend amongst DJs who use CDs though. A lot of people are recording tracks at home onto CD in such a way that they don't have to beatmatch in the club... I stood behind Tall Paul and saw him play a whole set this way. I don't see the point in doing that... no fun. :( And that really isn't progress... that's Fisher Price mixing.

Nem I hear ya, It really concerns me as well. I play on Traktor and cop all kinds of crap for it from people who don't have a clue of what it takes to spin a killer set on Traktor. I work hard keeping things running spot on coz make no mistake there ain't hardly nothing automatic about it, you need a good ear not a good and working Traktor decks like they are vinyl is definitely an aquired art form and necessary to pull of a good set. That being said its absolutely possible to prep a set and run it pretty much on autopilot in a club. That is just wrong on so many levels tho...

| i htink hes talkin like mix meister. u can get it to auto beat match then u cn burn the auto beatmatched files on a cd. its very simple. i use it when i burn cds. |
