| I agree with all that you said. At first I just wanted to stress my feelings that's all. |

I feel that vinyl is too big and expensive for everyday people and is only a niche for dj's nowadays. CD's are just a little bit too small for me and would prefer them little larger but hey it's not a perfect world.
But I really hope they increase resolution of these discs as they are becoming little outdated , don't you think?
16 bit/44khz and 2 channels might have been top of the line 10 years ago but now everything is moving into higher definition. When blu ray discs start coming out by the end of the year, movies will have audio resolution of 24bits/96khz on 8 channels. Audio discs shouldn't be lower than that. |

i think so... |
so your saying if you buy all of the songs as high quality Mp3 and burn them to cd and spin them you wont repect a person's mixing just because they using cd's? That is the case for me and a lot of people i believe. |

its a shame vinyl is dissapearing and it will be non existent soon:(
next to dissapear is being able to buy cd's. now virgin and hmv have started an mp3 site we can kiss goodbye to going to shops for our music.
im dreading when i have to start burning all my vinyl to cd due to clubs only having cd players.
the only music i listen to now is stuff from the ta forums. its fresh and is keeping trance going. and its free! |

I agree, to be honest, have taken a break from DJing as there isn't much out there that actually makes me want to play at the moment. Admittedly have been away for a bit as am on holiday. But when I left the music scene was toilet in my humble opinion. I find that an already quite formulaic sound has become incredibly stagnant and that labels seem to be afraid of signing anything new.
MP3 has made the industry stand on its head at the moment and who knows what we will see next.
I watch and wait.
Cheers

I Like vinyl. If I am not mistaken, there is no beat matching with CD's?
Where is the fun, and skill?
With vinyls, if your not good at beat matching, you are always working, listening and concentrating, making sure your getting everythign matched.
And with cd's, what is there to do, besides mix? It's not respectable, in my opinion. |

You are, in fact, mistaken.

Mixing cd's is not very different from vinyl.
All you do is pitch, and cue. The process is almost entirely the same with both cds and vinyl. There are a few pros and cons with both. If you read the thread you'll find out what they are.
Personally I use both cds and vinyl. I prefer vinyl because i think it's easier, and I dont really have a pair of good cd players ( cdj-100s ). If I had a pair of cdj-1000s I probably wouldnt bother dragging my plastic with me when I gig. |

Yeah, cds just magically change their pitch and cue points and actually judge when the best time to drop the next track in is. Its amazing to watch. You just slot the little critters into the drives and awaaaay they go. No need for beatmatching or listening as such. I mean at first I though it was just a little man inside there doing all the mixing for me, and then I realised...
I was smoking crack... :haha: :haha: |

No, it's not like that at all. DJing is very much what you make it, if you want to just mix tracks together the traditional way then you can do it with CDJs but it opens a whole new world.
Look into properly though as you will be surprised.

I dunno, what do you think about it? Decide for yourself but imho laptop sets are a completely new form of performance. Its so far from djing track to track its not really worth comparing. Most of the people that slag off Live havnt even opened the program let alone put together a set. If your into production the ability to remix your own tracks live is something completely new. As a result its percieved as lame or uncool just like cds were 12 months ago (read posts in this thread a year ago and see for yourself). The only thing thats lacking is DJ reaction. This will change when DJs start adopting midi interfaces instead of clicking the mouse. Infact, check out the Lemur configurable touchscreen just released...
clicky
Now imagine a guy up there with a couple of those and a 12 channel midi controller all wired into Live. EQ, fx, all the ...
starting to get the picture?
Its got all to do with DJing really :conf: If anything, this will actiully bring the scene back to live performace acts playing their own productions and further away from DJ's. About time some balance was restored to the force imo... |

wow! That is really nice! The reason why i mentioned it was the recent surge in ableton users who go live. BT has been using it for a very long time (or so i heard) in his laptop symphony, but now we have sasha, james zabiela, tania mann and gabriel and dresden just banging out with ableton sets. Vinyl vs CD should not be debated anymore, its clear now that you need both to keep up with computer mixing. |
