i think it just depends on how rich you are...well..let say a so not rich guy..he/she would of course go for the cdj because in the future..is cheaper.
well i dont know...just my opinion
oh yes and plus..its all about the skills and selection of tracks

| I dont understand peopl ewho say CD sucks. Ofcourse Vinyl shows more class and flare, but lets face it, its much better to have CD. Though I use Vinyl :) |

Hi, mixing with vinyls is better, but the pioneer cd mix is not bad!
Mixing with your PC (mixmeister and so on) is VERY bad, I think... That's not the reality! |

Flesch- Thanks for your informational posts.
Personally, I am just beginning to understand the world of DJ'ing, mixing and which way i want to go with it.
Your post taught me about how it was, how it is, and what the prepare and look for in the future. It helped a lot on shaping my decisions on what equipment to get, etc.

Thank you :) I actually posted all of that out of frustration of people misunderstanding what the differences were all about and what the benifits of each medium actually are. In the end it comes down to personal choice. I think that cds are the best choice for me, but I perfer buying vinyl over cds ;) haha. I AM a quality buff, believe it or not, and so I like the advantages of vinyl over cd, but I won't give up the advantages of cds either. I play both worlds.
I am very glad that I could help you out in your dissicions. They aren't always clear cut to some. And it's not often that I see posts in this thread that actually offer objective and helpful information. I hate the posts that say "vinyl rules, cds suck!". They do nothing more than bump the thread and waste my time.
Anyway, as I said, I'm glad I could help. |

I just stumbled across this thread and thought I'd add some fuel to the fire... ;)
I have witnessed, first hand, two big name DJ's that had a CD deck malfunction (cut out) on them in the middle of a tune. Both times, each DJ threw up his hands, faded over to a turntable, and proceded to curse the CD deck. Incidentally, both decks (separate occasions and clubs) were Pioneer. (Not that I'm trying to slam Pioneer, but I thought it was an interesting conicidence.)
Now, I'm not dissing CD's as a DJ medium by any means. However, I've never heard of anyone having a problem with a turntable that wasn't caused by human error... In other words, I've never seen a turntable just up and quit like a CD deck.
On a personal note, I love the feel and the sound of vinyl. You just can't get that feeling with CD's.

| I haven't really followed this discution, but, i think, none is better. Its 2 totally different kinds of handling. It depends on your personal taste. It is true that on a vinyl, you feel and see the music, where with a CD you dont see the music. But, on the other hand, CD's are easier to get, and much cheaper. But i'm still staying with the old vinyl :) |

that happened at insomniacz last weekend, the dj in room 2 was in the middle of a mix.. and the cd ed up so he got real pissed off and threw the actual cd into the crowd |

that's what i've been saying
you can't compare the 2 because it's 2 totally different mediums
analog and digital
it's like comparing fruit to candy
you can discuss the differences and which is better between 2 chocolate bars, but not between a chocolate bar and an orange |

I disagree.
If you are playing trance ( or any other kind of electronic music ),
then all you are doing 90% of the time is pitching and cueueing.
This process is almost exactly the same with cd and vinyl decks.
It's the knob twiddling part of DJ'ing that determines the result.
You can argue about feeling and sentimentality, but this is all it comes down to. Pitching and cueueing.

but people were talking about sound quality before
which is what i was referring to
but in terms of functionality, i know i can play jsut as well on cd as i do vinyl
it doesn't matter to me
and a lot of djs here say they beatmatch using just the pitch control, so then there goes that "hands on" type argument
