Hi there,
I currently study in Sydney Australia at University of New South Wales. My degree is Bachelor of International Studies. As part of my degree, it is essential that i venture into a foreign university for two semester (12 months) in order to graduate.
For those who went to University of Amsterdam or know the environment, can you please answer these questions?
1. How far is it from University of Amsterdam to the centre of city? Can it be readily accessible by public transport? Can a foreign student who knows English well can easily move around with little difficulty?
2. Is University of Amsterdam well known for it's field in "International Relations & Politics?". Those two field are my core majors and it is important for me to go to university which has high accreditation.
3. How expensive is the cost of living there? How much is public transportation and accomidation? |

1: the different faculties have different locations. all are within walking distance of Public Tr/p
1a: no probs for foreigners as long as they speak english.
2: dunno. personally i feel that the yield of (post-)graduates has less and less quality these days. but that's personal. internationally speaking, holland is high ranked for some (!) (university-) studies.
3:finding accomodation in amsterdam is hell for most people. public tr/p is fairly cheap for students, they all get a "travel free as much as you like"-card. but i don't know if it appplies to foreign students. you should check whether the univerity can help you out. i know of a hotel which houses exchange-students from october through june. (it's only a hotel in the other months)
good luck |

| The VU (Free University of Amsterdam) is somewhat better than the UvA, but located at the South of Amsterdam. This means you will be less distracted ;) |

foreign students don't recieve this kind of card.
As for housing: check the university, they will try to solve it but finding a room in amsterdam is very hard. |

| Het California forum is pas arrogant! Ik had daar 1x een thread gepost met vragen mbt stage, daar was geen algemene vragen thread. Kreeg maar 1 zielige reply en 1pm. Die moeten hier echt geen dingen vragen! |
