lol, but from the indamix.ca gallery (well, I'm only at pic 210) one might get the impression that they stopped homos at the door :P
sidebar: Why were so many of the women such angry standoff-ish freaks? And if they're gonna be angry, standoff-ish freaks, why do it in such hoochie uniforms? |

Okay, wow, where do I start?
This weekend for me was all about connections. When we got to the Palais, one of my friends from Gatineau saw a security dude who used to bounce at a bar there, so we were able to avoid the first lineup and get to the escalator asap.
Like everyone is saying here, the security check point was brutal.. basically you would move about 5 feet every 10 mins or so. Frisking was very smooth, however, unlike DJ Dan at Circus the night before, where they did everything to you short of a cavity search. We got in at 1-ish.
How's this for name-dropping: amongst our group of 15, three were on AVB's guest list as Armin was playing in Calgary recently. If you saw a few muscleheads with their barbie gfs just below the Spiderman tarp in the House room, that was us :p
While I missed half of Stephan Grondin's set, I did catch the latter part and the man did not let me down. It was filthy and dirty house, some tribal, tech.. just wow!! Peter Rauhofter was also great, continuing the momentum that Grondin started. I also caught some of SVD, as I did lots of solo jaunts around the Palais away from our group. SVD was also great, hard hard beats. I sometimes bash trance on here but the stuff he brought was something special and thumpin' hard.
Did catch Maya's half hour set. Poor Maya.. the music started to skip and she had to cut off that song she was singing. One of my friends commented that she may have been lip synching, ala Ashley Simpson. In any case, she redeemed herself.. good vocals but a bit too diva, man love for me :p
Offer Nissam was good.. good but not as good as the Grondin-Rauhofer b2b. And some parts got too diva-ish for me there as well. Sultan was good.
The latter part of Armin's set was excellent.. very hard and danceable for me.. hard-charging, dirty techno trance if there's such a category. It was funny to see a stream of ppl leave once Above dropped their first track. Sorry, they didn't do it for me.
So I skipped over to Deep Dish, who dropped a nice proggy house set in the beginning, but predictably put me to sleep with their monotony. Thank god for the two mint girls who made a sandwich on the dancefloor ... with me in the middle :p ;)
In sum, the party for me never really got started until about 8am or so, when the rooms started to thin out. I personally like to take portions of the night and roam around dancefloors solo and dance at different points, even if I'm with a big group. Like Resolution, I couldn't do that for the most part again.
BeB 13 was fun, but that was due in large part to the ppl I was with, the randoms that I met and the music. I agree with ANF and a few others on TA here that it is imperative that the dj bookings remain dirty and creative. However, the biggest issue right now is the overcrowding/fire hazard problems at our last two massives. After what happened at Stereo recently, and at Resolution, I am not surprised to see the crackdown. Some serious changes are needed for those who are paying upwards of $90 and are not getting their value :whip: :whip:
music 9/10 :gsmile:
organisation 1/10 :whip:
vibe 9/10
women 10.5/10 :eyespop:
highlights: see ratings above, and of course the hot girl "sandwich"
lowlights: Missing Preach's set due to distraction above (plus, I was in a severe "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" mode for about an hour :p :)), not running into Marcus or any TAs, for that matter, and the overcrowding and frisking wait issues. |

| maybe the smaller attendance this year will convince them to finally have a new lineup. How nice would it be to see only dj's that never played Beb and change things up for the first time in 6 years. |
