That's not what I meant - I only mean that you have every right to speak, but it's disingenuous to criticize those that take it a step further and act. In fact, it's downright frustrating to be criticized for the very thing I labor against! I don't want a continuation of the status quo - I want change, and just because I can't do it on my own doesn't mean that I shouldn't do my part to help the effort, be it global or local, large-scale or grassroots. To paraphrase one of my favorite quotes, the past is beyond our ability at this point to change, but in our own small way, each of us who cares can bring about real change in the future with the limited skills we each bring to bear.
Working within the system is the only way we are realistically going to affect change. Lord knows the system is damaged, but it doesn't do any productive good to sit back and be an armchair quarterback. You're an intelligent individual - work with us in changing things for the better rather than enabling the perpetuation of the status quo. I really do believe that if more people like you, who seem to care about the world around them, actively seek out opportunities to affect change, we might actually get somewhere beyond bickering on a message board over whether action would merit any real result.

There is no evidence here that the content of his speech was the reason for his being tased and removed. Indeed, there is considerable evidence that it was his inappropriate behavior, not the content of his question, which prompted the police response. According to another witness at the forum:

Obviously, a forum such as this one cannot be expected to necessarily allow time for everyone to ask every question they would like to ask. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that people will not interrupt the forum to ask their question out of turn, nor I do think it's unreasonable to expect that people who disrupt the forum in such a manner ought to be removed. Now, if you want to argue that the officers overreacted or used more force than was appropriate, by all means do so. But trying to turn this into some incident of political suppression is precisely, in pkc's words, characterising an incident incorrectly.

I agree with Arbiter - yes his conduct was obscenely inappropriate, but in light of the circumstances described, I'm still a bit surprised they used a weapon on him - especially given that there were like 6 officers on top of him at the time and he was on his way outside. The one I almost feel bad for is John Kerry - haha, if you listen to him he's like "wtf stop doing that" and no one listened to him. You're a long way from being President now Johnny boy.
