1) America is the first actual (= modern) democracy. Perhaps I am wrong? :conf:

2) My definition of democracy is a system which allows counter-powers to be powerful. America is a democracy, but some of its counter-powers are endangered. Sad.

Nah, the US is a republic ("officially"). Don't buy all that our idiots tend to spew about 'bringing democracy to the world'. We just want money. :stongue:

And yeah, what democratic systems we do have are out of balance like whoa. But democracy rarely works out, and if it does, it does not last - just ask Rome.

Rome wasn't a democracy either.

Haha, touche. They were a republic just like the United States. Representation, but not direct participation like a true democracy would require. Democracy isn't really feasible in a society larger than, say 3000 people.

The situation, IMO, was handled in a very poor manner.

Yes, the guy was being a douche, and yes, he was being a little over-reactive/dramatic.

With that in mind, can someone explain to me where, in the first amendment that it states "you have the right to freedom of speech, so long as it isn't done dramatically, and you're not a douche,"?

He didn't break a law. Sure, he stomped all over some social expectancies, but that certainly doesn't require a 50,00 volt shock to the chest.

"He was resisting arrest, that's why they shocked him." What was he being arrested for? He had a right to resist being man-handled. He didn't do anything to be treated the way he was being treated.

The thing that disgusts me far more than anything else in this video, is the way the people who watched all of this unfold, sat there and did NOTHING. People are so complacent... little sheep who do what they are told, don't use their own brains to question what is around them, and accept things as they are. People would rather watch a horrible thing happen in front of them, and instead of fighting for what they think is right, let it happen... even if that were to mean death of many, including themselves.
