That is correct. :)
I still can't believe they did it!
PS. It looks like Saku is gonna play alongside Teemu next season. *crosses fingers*
I feel bad about him leaving, that we've already established. But ANA is certainly not a bad option. :)
I can picture it now.. Selanne - Koivu - ??? = Profit. |

Jay, I read an interesting article last night about the massive decline of Europeans getting drafted, a step in the direction you was hoping for, yes?

Just read last night that they will stay in Phoenix.
The court did not approve the purchase because the deadline is on the 29th of June, and he doesn't have enough time to sort everything out before that.
He's also tried to buy the Pens and Preds in the past, apparently his goal is to buy an American team and relocate it to Canada. I guess it's just a matter of time before he succeeds. |

i want more europeans in the nhl dubbie:) the thing is i just want those who aspire to win a cup more than a gold medal. There are tons of great imports in the nhl, but there are also tons who collect a paycheck and show 0 heart. I hope you understand this D, as some of the best hockey players in the world comefrom europe.
I just want them to play to their ability. I love my country too, but if someone paid me a few million a year i would love them more.
the phoenix saga is not over;)
the judge basically said work it out or move. The problem being that NO ONE in phoenix has stepped up with $$$ I really hope they move anywhere, hockey does not belong in the desert. |

You're confusing 'European' with 'Czech' and 'Russian' again :p
The article is in Finnish so it probably won't do you any good.
After the lockout season, the percent of drafted Canadians has gone from a total of 38,7% up to 48%! So it's safe to say that less and less Europeans are getting drafted.
Twentyfive Finns were drafted in 2002, but in the last 4 years, only 34 :(
According to Hockey News there are 14 Swedes in the top 100 prospects, 6 of them will probably be drafted on the first round. Whereas Finland only has 8 guys in the top 100, and only one who's considered first-round material (Joonas Nattinen #27). And 16 Canadians!
There won't be many Finns in the NHL in 10 years if this trend continues :(
Who do you think will be #1? Tavares or Hedman? Canada has a total of 36 1st picks, Sweden has one :p |

either one is a great bet depending on what the team wants.
i would rather have hedman but that is just me.
there are a lot of canadians drafted, because if you look at the last 5 years, canadians win the cup. The playoffs are rough man, you need that grit. Sure there are more than a few gritty euros, but there are also a lot who are afraid to get hit.
i've gotfree tickets to both draft days, my gf is working in the washington capitals box:D |

I would like to know how many Russians are in that top 100.

A big reason is that the pick expires in 2 years, which means that all drafts that were made before the summer of 2007 are null and void. So it's a lot 'safer' for the teams to draft a North-American.
I don't know how it's 'safer', but that's what I read. Does it have something to do with not having to pay too big transfer-fees, or is it the players being 'closer' to the teams since they play in the same country, making them easier to scout, or some other reason that I don't know about, you tell me.
edit: heart and/or grit does not qualify as an answer :o
