also, not like warcraft because at least if you participate in fantasy it gives you incentive to pay attention to teams other than your personal favorite. that's the biggest problem with hockey fans, they only watch their team...or the majority of hockey fans anyway |
i agree. i think this pertains to all sports for me. it allows the fellow sports fan, like me, to get a chance to see who the other superstars and up and comers are out there outside of my tv market. the teams i don't get a chance to see. sorry for breaking the hockey reference here, but i currently have a basketball fantasy team running right now. :)
but for example, if it wasn't for fantasy league, i wouldn't know about how good kevin martin(sacramento), andris beidrins(golden state), al jefferson(minnesota), brook lopez and devin harris(new jersey), jeff green(oklahoma city), and paul milsapp(utah). i wouldn't know how important they are to their respective teams if it wasn't for fantasy basketball. :)
as baseball season is coming up, without fantasy baseball, no one would know who the up and comers are, as players get bounced around from minor to major league and back.
just my 2 cents about fantasy sports ......... :)
as for the comparison to warcraft, not even close. warcraft is in it's own league outside of fantasy sports discussion. :o |

I wasnt bagging on it. I totally understand why its appealing. I hope you werent thinking I was trying to poke fun. Its just funny to hear conversations between others that play fantasy teams. I can see where it makes watching two teams (or the rest ) you wouldnt normally care about, funner. Its a good idea, I just havent gotten into it. I probably would be talking like that too.
I have noticed that about (at least west coast hockey fans) only watch their team. I was at the bar and started talking to a guy in a ducks jersey about the ducks. He didnt even know his teams backup goalie (Hiller) who has been really solid in net. He didnt know that Rob Blake is a shark now. It was painful.Ill watch anything hockey, even the teams I hate. Center Ice is the only thing on in my place since october. |

it is not just west coast fans, it is hockey fans everywhere really. people know what's going on at their teams and that is it. i know people who will only watch the rangers, like they didn't watch any playoff hockey for years since the rangers weren't in it. sad if you ask me.
even though i personally do not engage in gambling on sports, gambling and fantasy keep people aware of what's going on in some sports. i mean look at march madness, if it wasn't for the brackets and the possibility of making money i am sure few people would take that much notice to college basketball. true fans of any said sport will take notice of what's happening around but honestly to me most are fans of a team or particular player. |

| Sharks looked pretty good but its getting closer to the quality hockey season and the teams that are about to turn it on, are going to be fun to watch. |

went to the rangers game and god it was a great game to be at...much better than graves night which got me a little teary eyed at the beginning but the game blew so i left after the second.
anyway, tonight shaped up to being a much better game than most of us anticipated. the two fights in the beginning, who would have thought orr could hold up so well against brashear? i sure didn't! then this fleishner (or whatever) kid on the caps came out and strong with two points in the first period. federov had flashes of his good ole days, you know the time before he was banging anna kournikova days. anyhow watching ovechkin play is always a pleasure because that kid has heart and is so damn good at what he does. i think it was during the third he had a shot on goal which literally came from nowhere. as the third and final shooter for the caps he ties which was a sick goal but unfortunately for the caps they lost. i'll be the first to admit ranger fans make me weary because i'm tired of hearing "shoot the puck" every two seconds or "potvin sucks" but i do really have to give it to them during the shootout not a single person was seated. great energy in msg tonight for sure. in two weeks i've got avs - devils then avs - rangers, i'm preparing myself to be disappointed though :(. |

| there are some big injuries, fine...but something is very wrong with this team since the all star break. They just don't show up and management is letting the coach drown. |

I don't know what was funnier from the Caps-Rangers game last night:
The 40 second 5 on 3 where the Rangers passed it around and then let it float out of the zone or Jose Theodore during the shootout |

| Sharks looked like . Im suprised they didnt get beat worse. Back up goalie Boosh did great. He was the only one really in the zone. |

the two worst things about going to games are the fans who don't know anything about the game and the ones who think people came to see them instead of the game. also, i don't know why they put graves night the same night they are playing the thrashers. maybe they thought it would be an easy win or maybe they were thinking about ticket sales? |
