me sideways with a stick. The literal name of this country is the United States of America, as STATED in the Declaration of Independece. Or America, for short. It most likely came from Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian explorer in the 1500s.
American and North American are two different things. Am I missing something here? Ffs. |

I know what you're saying and if you want to get all technical..yes. But these days when one says " American " We are referring to people from the United States of American, that funny shaped country, the one below Canada which also is part of North AMERICA yet not called Americans. It's just a term to set us apart. It's the only country within North America that contains "America" ( I think ) so it's only right, no? |
