I am aware of this stuff. I am not oblivious. I came from a family that struggled. We relied on the church (they paid bills, house payment, provided food, etc), family (grandparents have bought my sperm and egg donor EVERY one of their cars that I can remember), been on welfare, etc. I am not oblivious to the perils of society. I have been there myself. |

1. A lot of people are not working full time, as already pointed out.
2. Many of those people are in families. The poverty-line income gets higher as more people are in the family, so that in some families even $7 or $8 would not be "poverty level" wage. |

I came from poverty. There are 7 kids in my family. We had no money for clothes, food, credit card payments (ugh don't get me ing started), mortgage, and utilities depending on a host of factors. I never saw my parents purchase one car themselves. They had no money. We were on welfare from the time I was 6 years old till I was 14 or so. So because of this should I have better treatment? I guess I see it differently since I came from poverty. I see too many lazy s that claim they are disabled to get free money and not work. And too many lazy s that just don't want to better themselves. This is the kind of that the numbers don't show. That people just see and go, "OH WE NEED TO FIX THIS!!!!!" There is nothing to fix with a bunch of them. They are a lost cause. |

Yeah, but I wasn't sitting on my ass waiting for a paycheck. I was constantly looking for a job. Talking to people I know, turning in my resume, going to agencies, doing what I could to get a job. |
