Very disturbing times. The lions have acted after years of indifference by canadians towards their own country. |
If anything, the coalition is hurting the liberals.
There will most likely be 0% CPC's jumping over to support the coalition. Obviously.
But the Liberals at least will lose some support for those who disagree with the coalition, those who hate the communists, and those who hate the separatists. I know at least a handful of Liberals that want to jump ship because of this.
The liberals are just thinking short term and not looking at the bigger picture!

I'm not certain about Honda; however, Toyota has reduced it's production in Cambridge. It's not just the big three that are suffering... Toyota has had a 30% reductions in sales year over year from this October to last. Additionally, while Toyota and Honda are not very vocal about it they would be included in any Ontario bailout. |
Yes, their sales are down a lot, but that is due to market demand, especially in the US, and not because of bad engineering or product decisions. The other fact is that Toyota or Honda are not in serious debt like GM or Ford. Those plant reductions are supposed to happen, because they have lower revenues, they are doing what they are supposed, and not asking for money.

GM is seeking to reduce total debt of $62 billion, including obligations related to a union retiree health-care fund, to about $30 billion, according to the plan. The company had $43.3 billion in debt at the end of September, not including borrowings associated with the retiree plan. |

RALLY FOR CANADA
Saturday December 6, 2008: 12 PM - 2 PM
Last weekend, we learned that the NDP under Jack Layton has been in talks with the separatists Bloc Quebecois for quite some time to form a plan to seize power and to overthrow the government. This would overturn the results of the las telection held just six weeks ago without seeking consent from we the Canadian voters.
The Block Quebecois is dictating the terms of the next government and has declared that Stephane Dion will be the next Prime Minister of Canada. This unelected government could only be sustained with the support of the separatist Bloc Quebecois itself.
This would mean that the government of Canada would be at the mercy of people committed to destroying our confederation.
We ask that on Saturday, December 6, democracy-loving Canadians from coast-to-coast gather to support democracy, not political games in this time of crisis.
Toronto event will be held at Queens Park South on Saturday December 6, from 12 PM to 2 PM.

I already addressed what Spam said and received his endorsement of my response. Also, had you read what I wrote you would understand that I don't disagree with letting them fail, just on letting them fail suddenly and all at once. |

I didn't suggest that they were in the same predicament; however, my understanding is that the talks of a bail-out included assistance for Toyota and Honda. |

So... $43.3 billion in debt, and additional $20 billion in retiree debt. Makes up the total of $63 billion dollars!!!
Now how is that 10 or so billion gonna help them? Here's the profile on the CEO:

Rick Wagoner was elected GM chairman and chief executive officer on May 1, 2003. He had been president and chief executive officer since June 2000.
Wagoner was elected president and chief operating officer in 1998 and had been executive vice president of GM and president of North American Operations since 1994.

So this guy has been up there for what, almost 15 years. The company is 60 billion in the hole. And nooooooow he worries.

Sorry. That comment was directly at you but just adding on to what Spam said.
But yes, I do understand that just letting them fail right now will have a severe economic impact on the US & Canada right now. Maybe its just because I'm young and am looking more than just 5 years down the road.
The only thing is what can the government do to fix the problem? Maybe if they give them the bailout, take part ownership, fire the entire management team for Ford, GM & Chrysler, hire some management who can actually manage, forecast, create a plan and understand what they should be producing, and where they should be producing it.
But I doubt that will happen.
I doubt that there will be any kind of management change with a bailout package. Maybe give Ford some money. they can survive for in the short-run. Same with Chrylser.
Let GM go bankrupt first and work from there.

I watched May's speech yesterday....she really doesn't like Harper. I think they may have had a thing and Harper didn't call her the next morning or something. |
