And if another election gets called and we spend another $350million to get basically the same government that we've had for 2 years now, Dion and Layton should be handing in their resignations for instigating this whole mess. because hey, isn't that money we could have pumped into our pathetic economy?

um...shouldn't Harper be handing his in too?

He failed to win a majority despite the scandals that saw the Liberal party decimated, with no legit threat from another party.

He failed AGAIN to win a majority, despite calling an (unnecessary) election at the time of his choosing and despite an apparently widely unpopular carbon tax plan by the Liberals and despite raising *significantly* more money on his campaign.

IMHO, Harper twice won elections by default. He wasn't being endorsed by the Canadian people. He won because he and the CPC were seen as sucking the least.

Harper has failed. Harper contravened fixed election dates. Harper tried the coalition move himself in the past, so looks like a complete jackass bashing it now. Harper's arrogance has now opened up the possibility that his party will be removed from power mere weeks after winning an election.

I think ALL THREE parties should be seeking new leadership.

This mess can *hardly* be pinned on the opposition alone. Harper's miscalculations (I'll call it arrogance) definitely factor in.

oh man, we people who voted Bloc are having a field day, those votes counted after all

Any day the Bloc will be able to defeat that mickey mouse coalition ! We got our veto.

Dion will be yet another french PM HAAHHAHA

oh man, good times ahead.

pretty hard to argue with that.

I don't think Harper is dumb though...so I guess my 'arrogant' claim sticks? :D

For the record, as desperately as I want Harper out of office, I certainly don't think this coalition is "good" for Canada.

I fail to see how the parties will mesh their widely differing ideologies and priorities to form a stable gov't.

it will not.
after the bloc's time in the coalition is up, there will be a vote of no confidence

has long as it lasts long enough for new leaders for the major parties to be elected...that might not be so awful.

bloc's time will be up as soon as the liberals will force something down the provinces... don't forget Dion will be the PM, he's one of the most hated politician in Quebec since Trudeau.

Dion and the Bloc are like water and electricity.

I dont think Harper is going to be sacked by the Cons. I dont even know who'd run for leadership if Harper did get sacked.

NDP... Taliban Jack has a lock. Now that NDP has govt position, his hold on the NDP is even stronger than before.

Libs... The fact that all 3 guys in the running for endorsed this deal shows how power hungry they are. Wait out, win leadership convention and be PM by default. Goooo democracy!

Good to know that the nation will be run by an incompetent who lost the election for next year or so.

If you're referring to subprime mortgages's you are correct, though banks in Canada have taken massive hits from that whole debacle.

everything else... we're having the exact same problems as the US.. though not to the same extent. I work closely with bankruptcy departments at my work, and we see it in our write offs every month. I hear the same thing from associates at other banks. I obviously can't provide numbers, but they're huge everywhere.

A couple of question for those who support the Liberals and NDP: do you believe that Canada should in fact create a stimulus package? Do you believe that these parties would do a better job handling the economy than the CPC?
