I know there's got to be some other people out there that are using Windows 7 beta, so I figured why not make a little discussion thread about it?

I've got build 7000 (public beta) installed on my PC on a separate drive, slowly weaning myself off of Vista.

It is pretty well damn near prime-time stuff. I've only had a few little issues. I love the new taskbar, and Aero Peek is great. Working with dual monitors is even easier now with the automatic docking and resizing of windows to the sides of monitors. Aero Shake to clear clutter is also a very very useful little feature.

Additionally, its fast. I mean fast. Boots up a good 15 seconds faster than XP and Vista do on my machine, and normal tasks seem instant.

Some of the cooler features:

~3 minute video of the neat stuff.

Aero Shake: Grab the top of a window and "shake" it to clear
everything off screen but what you've grabbed. Do it again to bring everything back.

It looks similar to Vista, yes, but it's a gigantic improvement in all areas. I can't get over how quick it is.

Has anybody else been messing around with it?

I wish I had a computer capable for running a modern windows OS.

Win7 is everything an OS should be.

It's fast, it's stable - IMO the best Windows version yet.

As MSFT starts to roll out Mesh and cloud (hate the buzz-word, but I digress) systems it will even improve more.

Things are really progressing on the PC side of things. I feel like we're at the cusp of where we were 10 or so years ago when things -really- started to change/be different.

Dude, this even runs like a dream on my Mini 1000 (Atom N270, 1GB RAM). WAY better than XP, and I even get another 20 minutes of friggin battery life out of it too.

TRY IT! Seriously, it's faster than XP even on old hardware.

On a side note, I had a helluva time getting Win7 onto my netbook. I don't have a USB flash drive larger than 1GB for some reason, so I decided to use my external USB hard drive.

I made a 10GB FAT32 partition, marked it primary and active, and extracted the ISO contents to it. Plugged it into my netbook, rebooted, selected it from the disk boot menu, and all should we well, right? Nah. It would sit there at a blank screen with the blinking cursor forever.

Luckily I remembered that I have an 8GB SD card kicking around, so I did the same thing with that, popped it into the card reader in the Mini 1000, and it worked fine.

Odd, as what I did previously seems to be what so many others have done. I wonder why it didn't work for me.

It's pretty good but I wish my sound worked on it. I installed the drivers and got nothing

Hmm...I wonder if it will work on my EEEpc? Google it is. Oh never mind 4GB only on my epc, oh well.
