I think most guys secretly want kids, they just don't want to admit it lol.

I am constantly on the fence about it. I go from wanting them to not wanting them.

Yeah, I'm definitely sympathetic to that argument, even if ultimately I don't accept it.

I've had the dispute with my brother a number of times, since he's much more pro-biological-reproduction than I am, which I blame on his being a dirty biologist.

My view is that it ultimately comes down to a question of the marginal costs of the time invested in the reproductive enterprise versus the marginal benefits of personally creating biologically superior offspring. The bulk of the time costs can be broken down into two components: time spent finding an appropriate mate, and time spent raising the child or children after they are born. Since the latter can be mitigated in a number of ways, I'm particularly concerned with the former: it may be worth my time reproducing if I can breed my race of super-humans within a generation or two, but if my genes are just going to get diluted and percolate down through the gene pool for a few thousand years before creating a substantial number of more evolved human beings, then technological development will probably make obsolete the ultimate benefits of my reproducing before they even materalize.

At this point I am sufficiently pessimistic about the amount of time I would have to invest to locate an appropriate mate that I suspect that my time is more valuable if spent on more indirect means of influencing the human gene pool. After all, while it is tempting to view my birth as a singular opportunity for the advancement of the human species, the reality is that the raw genetic materials already had to be out there or I would not exist. The key is to increase the probability of the most advantageous reproductive pairings. Although my own participation in the gene pool certainly does that, it is a statistically miniscule contribution in a population of billions of human beings. That's why I choose to devote my limited time to engineering the human population on a more global scale.

It's a noble, self-sacrificing life, but that's just the kind of guy I am. :clown:

out of curiosity, what would be the perfect "mate" for you?

*edit* are you all doped up on nyquil and mucinex DM?
