With that in mind, along with skyrocketing population rates (world population was under a billion for 1800 years, yet somehow we've done that seven times over in the past 200) and documented environmental changes (desertification, toxic watersystems, et al), I'd venture it's safe to say that the playing field has changed considerably over the past couple of hundred years.

You're right. We now have things like antiseptic and 911 on your cellphone. And we don't have to cram into cancerous factories or work our hands bloody every day just to feed our extensive families, the only abandon for the ennui of being an upright ape who doesn't know how to read. Well, in the western world at least. Kinda.

Of course things have changed somewhat, but that includes all varying manners of change - some good, some bad, none of us any closer to God among the living.

The peoples of Pompeii are probably having a mixer with the victims at Nagasaki as we speak.

This was a good import. I think anyway. :p

Indeed, though Vermouth is just a few steps away from being Absinthe. I think the name for it is derivative of vermut or wermuth which we could easily know as "wormwood" - the chief herb distilled for Absinthe.

You win this round, Hal

I can't possibly refute anything to do with the drinking of Absinthe.

Oh, it's been a while :(

Yeah, I pulled some serious Lira right there. Though my etymological prowess extends only to certain alcohols. :p

//Yeah, I meant to buy another bottle of it when Peter Steele died. Guess I didn't like him that much.

Speaking of studies, does anyone else feel like we rely far too much on widespread generalisations these days when it comes to pretty much everything?

"Studies show that kids grow up prefering X"
"Studies show that discipling a child with...."
"A recent study...."
"I read in a magazine that you should do X with your child"

...and so on. It's like for s sake, put down your God damn magazine and actually go by instinct and suggestions from friends and family. Just because a "child psychologist" told you to reason with little 6 year old Timmy, doesn't mean that's necessarily the best course of action.

As sad as it is to say, we're getting more intelligent at the upper level but we're actually getting dumber with everything else. We can't feed ourselves properly any more as evidenced by an obesity epidemic, we can't commit to relationships as evidenced by rising divorce rates, we can't hold down a job for long enough, our kids are getting out of control etc etc etc.
Shouldn't life be easier these days? Have we become so politically correct and study focused that we've actually headed backwards?
