Haven't had a chance to speak with her since she's been in London (understandble).. Our interactions since the Olympics started consisted of her "liking" my FB posts about the Olympics and rooting for her. I'll be sure to ask her once she comes back home. :p
Very sweet girl, incredible athlete and marvelous person. I really hope her and her team do well. :)
Lira
I'm totally going to support her/them... we only have a duet, and I don't know how strong they are :(

A funny thing I noticed is that I tend to support whoever shows up wearing headphones and/or comes from a really random country (such as Zimbabwe). Extra points if the person from the random country is the one listening to music :p

There's nothing wrong in watching the Artistic Gymnastics! :P

I can relate to this. I don't really care for ordinary sport events, but when it comes to the Olympics/World Cup, I follow as many matches as possible. They just look more fun.

They do indeed, probably because we're exposed to the 'traditional/popular' sports on a regular basis

I mean Handball, for example.... that was brilliant today, but when the hell do we ever get to watch Handball on normal TV?!

Did you see that Lithuanian swimmer?! Ruta Meilutyte is her name, I guess. She's just 15 and broke some Olympic record twice, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, that girl has a great career ahead of her. She hasn't won any medals yet, though, right?

I think the records she broke were her own country records.... or did I miss something whilst I was watching the other 2,492 sporting events that were going on today?

Actually...... yeah, you're right, she won the breaststroke semi-final, I think.

Synchronised Swimming, is it?
Lira
Aye :)

We know - we watched team GB doing their best at gymnastics before that :p

Yup. She's unbelievable :)

It's going to be interesting to see how NBC will react to the criticism for the 2014 Olympics. It is a bit odd that they are still tape-delaying everything in this world of globalization and near-instant news.

Also odd how Phelps has been performing. Is his reign over?

He has the most golds, but not the most total medals. If he gets two more then he will be.

Btw, I just read that he scratched the 200 free. So their last dual will be the 200 IM. Another event that I think Lochte will take.

He might win the 100 fly, but I dunno. Not looking good for Phelps this year.

I just don't think Phelps is hungry for gold medals anymore. I think after all those intense years of training he did for the Beijing games and winning so many medals that year, the guy just doesn't care anymore. You know what they say, a candle that burns twice as bright lasts only half as long.

i'd have to disagree... i think that phelps had a great leg on the relay, just that lochte came up short.. probably should of had lezak in there... but hindsight is 20/20.

in a weird way, i think that the team coming in second was a good thing for phelps... in that, lochte got smoked in his leg of the relay, and i believe lochte's confidence had to have taken a hit.

phelps, on the other hand, swam fast, and and everybody knows that it was lochte that screwed it for the US.

watch out for phelps...

Lochte definitely came up short, and I hope being taken down a notch will inspire him to try harder in the future. We should have taken that gold.

I want Phelps to do well, obviously, but Team USA is the most important thing here. His head needs to get back into the game and at least ing medal in every event. We should have gotten 1 and 2 in the 400 IM.

Big Worm
i agree with you there... we should've gotten gold and silver for the 400IM, but seemed like phelps was resting on his laurels.... he obviously won't make that mistake again.

on a somewhat unrelated note... man i feel bad for jordyn weiber... that poor girl! talk about a bitter pill to swallow.. missing out by .233??? that's rough. it's amazing the concentration these little gymnasts have, kind of bizarre, really.

The football has been really enjoyable so far. There's a nice balance where the overall tactical and defence quality is pretty ty, but there are still extremely talented and raw players out there. It results in very exciting, open football, reminiscent of World Cups of yore.
