Can't tell if bad at trolling or just incredibly misguided :conf:
Who gives a now if some 17th century leader murdered your people? Since then there have been over 100 major wars worldwide, the invention of the combustion engine and the microchip and penicillin and pole dancing. Get over it.
Acton spells it out pretty damn well; if you're holding a grudge for the potato famine, I suggest you stop eating fries. It has about as much logic to it.
I hate to break this to you as well, but just about every country ever formed (with the exception of Switzerland which was more of a trade passage contract between cantons but I digress) was in the blood of some indiginous people.

I didn't realise we were comparing atrocities here. I'll let you have this one, the atrocity committed against your ancestors, were worse than mine. Set point to srussell0018.
Wow :o

If I got through to DJ RANN, then happy days.
Seriously, though. This is an Olympic thread, where I've enjoyed posting over the past week and celebrating everyones victories. Let's try and keep it on track here.
But by all means, if someone wants to make another thread about the recent conversation, then feel free. |

Oh and just to add, popularity for Scotland leaving the UK is actually dropping.
Might have something to do with the fact they looked at the figures and realized they don't want to be broke.
In fact, according to a national poll done in January of this year, a higher % of English now want Scotland out of the UK that the Scots do. |

Actually not quite right Matt; I'm afraid the Roman's killed way more native of Aglii during their empirical invasion so I think you have more of a grudge to bear than srussell does :haha: |

Indeed, I have many Italian friends, also! It's nice to see you know some history, as well ;)
Anyway, back on the Olympics.....
What Athletic finals do we have tomorrow? I've not seen, or currently have access to the schedule.... |

Only the women marathon for track and field tomorrow.
The big event is the Mens artistic Gymnastics final.
Still gutted that we were robbed of the Silver for the team. Now that's a grudge to bear against the Japanese. I swear he never made that handstand. :whip: |

Individual, right? As I'm sure we had the team artistic events a day or two ago.....
*EDIT - Yeah, the team was a couple of days ago, I neglected the last part of your post. That was a bitch. |

I know I've already said this on Facebook, but I can't stop laughing here. The moment Shin A Lam finally gets her medal... the announcer mixes her up with someone else. I mean, she gets a medal and even then we can't help but feel bad for her, hehe. Someone please give the girl a hug! |
to follow up... 15 year old volunteer time keeper responsible for the mistake! Can you imagine... brutal.

No, I'm not British. I'll be the first to admit I harbor some resentment towards the British after the atrocities committed by your great leader Oliver Cromwell towards my people. |
I don't know, I find it weird. It's as if I were angry at the French or the Dutch for invading Brazil long before "Brazil" even existed :conf:

Think about it. Do you really think it makes sense to have a "Great Britain" which includes 4 different countries? What good has come of this? Religious conflicts aside, it is one of the key tensions between the Northern Irish and the actual Irish. Although it has obviously lessened over the years, they essentially created a civil war amongst a neighboring country. |
The United Kingdom became one of the greatest empires ever in history, and it was the total sum of the countries involved and their cooperation that made feats such as the industrial revolution possible in Britain.
The modern concept of nation state did not arise without struggles and difficulties... I can't think of a single great country (i.e. major players in world history, amongst the great contemporary economies) whose history doesn't involve some kind of bloodshed in order to keep some sort of cohesion. The transition from Prussia to Germany involved some wars (and Austria is pretty much a historical accident), Italy came about thanks to a similar campaign, and even Japan - isolated in an archipelago - was unified after a series of local skirmishes.
Personally, I can't see why Europe isn't a single country, as there are places like India and China that are as diverse as Europe, and profit from the cooperation of different groups within its borders (even if India isn't the pinnacle of development nowadays). |
