It's all good I never take things said here TOO seriously, and I'm hoping no-one takes TOO seriously what I say too...it's not that I don't mean it, but you know :)

From my Managers ...

July 15, 2004

We, at the Guvernment Nightclub, wish to apologize to those who expressed their displeasure of the July 10th evening.

Sasha was booked at the Guvernment at $15 to $20 per person, affording as many people as possible to attend. The response was so overwhelming that we tried to appease most patrons by bringing them in on time to see Sasha. Unfortunately, this caused confusion and discomfort for many, including our security staff who did not handle it properly.

Our intention was to provide you with a highly paid DJ, who is extremely popular, at a reasonable price. Twenty dollars per person is below average for a DJ of Sasha’s calibre. We do, however, take full responsibility for the regrettable behaviour of some of our security staff and to that end, we have reprimanded some and terminated others.

We take your comments seriously and wish to assure you that proper customer service is very important to us. We strive to treat all patrons with respect. We will do better next time.

Yours truly,

The Management
Guvernment / Kool Haus Entertainment Complex

^ well that was unexpected... I hope that the upcoming Labour of Love will prove their sincerity.

MarkT - as for your comments, I do put my money where my mouth is, I support the smaller clubs (and Boa) and intend to keep doing it, and didn't go to Guv for 6 months for a reason. I went back, thinking I'd give it another chance, and expressed my disappointment in this thread.

I don't get what any of you are trying to prove. People have a right to complain - if your friend got food poisoning at Taco Bell (hypothetically), would you tell him that it's his own fault because he didn't have to buy that burrito? Tell him to stop complaining and just not go to Taco Bell anymore if he's got a problem? I hope never to acquire any friends with that kind of attitude, it is sorely self-righteous and lacking in manners.

I maintain that it still wasnt that busy last week and furthermore so seems the headlining DJ

I maintain that you would have to be either blind or on crack to maintain that.

You should complain about yourself, it's a nice little circle you have going.
Jayx1
its quite ironic that you have to complain about complainers. But at least somebody is calling people out on it.

And thank god you're here to do that, otherwise, what would come of us?

AAAAAAAAAAng!!!
Wrong.

You keep bringing this point up but that's simply not true.
Sure the government may be enforcing it but let's not simply conclude that the government 'created' this non-smoking by-law.
It's a red-haring pseudo-conclusion (there's a word for yea lol).

You want stats? How about from the horse's mouth and not all this second-hand news...

ONTARIO BYLAW SUMMARY
Economic Impact

New York celebrates its one year anniversary of the 2002 Smoke-free Air Act. The NYC departments of Health and Mental Hygiene, Finance and Small Business Services and the City's Economic Development Corporation jointly released a report entitled "The State of Smoke-Free New York City" , a one year review of the economic and health impact of the law. The report shows increases in employment in the restaurant/bar industry, increases business tax receipts, increased bar permits/licences, better air quality in bar/restaurants, and compliance of almost 100%.

A new report concludes that the weight of evidence shows smoking bans have little or no effct on sales in the hospitality sector. The report, entitled "Smoke-free Policies: Market Research and Literature Review on Economic Effects on the Hospitality Sector" was commissioned by the Office of Tobacco Control (OTC) and consists of market research and review of literature in this area, undertaken by independent economists at University College Dublin in Ireland. For further details, click here.

A new survey from PUBCO reports 83% of Toronto bar and pub owners believe that smoking bans will hurt their businesses. However, the survey was conducted by Enhanced Marketing Services (EMS) who employ two individuals with affiliations to the tobacco industry. CEO Ron Gardiner previously held a senior management position at RJR Nabisco Inc., a former subsidiary of RJ Reynolds. Program Manager, Tony Palmero, holds a primary role in the management of the Benson & Hedges Business Edge Program, which includes the placement of cigarette vending machines in bars and other licensed establishments. Therefore, there is strong evidence of bias in this study and suggestion of PUBCO's role as an industry front group.

The 2004 Zagat New York City Restaurant Survey of nearly 30,000 restaurant patrons shows that 23 percent are eating out more often because of the city's smoke-free workplace law, which includes restaurants and bars. Only four percent said they are eating out less. The remaining 73 percent said it made no difference.

So tell me...after reading the BOLD part, I think we should be careful exactly who we're quoting.
Just because it's in print doesn't make it truth.

Click the link cause there a lot more than what I cut and pasted...

Personally i know of many examples of people and business who have been negatively affected by this new law.

I guess your summation applies to the stuff you quoted too then eh?
