I wouldn't want to be the bouncer who tells them to get lost and that they can't come into the club to get ed up. Besides, if you take away all the cracked out Asian's, the place would look empty on most given nights.

There's a reason why the foby asians are there...and I don't know if it should be discussed on this thread or any thread for that reason...just what a lil birdie told me...

Bottom line as I see it from Guvernment's point of view - Other clubs can't really afford top DJs - Guv offers them and the promoters more - you don't like the crowds don't come...and yes I know it's sucks and yes I know it's annoying but the bottom line is that it's the only place you can see certain top DJs in Toronto that come here like once in half a year or more. So like you said...you don't want to come to the Guv that's ok...I'm sure they are not sitting in the corner and crying about it...they have enough as it is. And yes they are greedy, and yes they are bastards, but aren't most businesses are in business to make money? And yes it sucks to be a girl in a packed club...but how many other clubs do you go to? Guv has a lot less perverts than any other club I've ever been too just simply cause most of them are half gone asians - try going to a regular club and not be grabbed by nasty guys...Nobody is twisting anyone's arm to go...like someone already said...you know full well that it's going to be packed...if you really don't want to be in such environment then don't go. If that's my only chance to see Ferry, Tiesto, PVD and etc then I'm personally willing to go through the experience and have a good time ;)

^^^Couldn't have been said any better. This is exactly what I was thinking as I was threading through this thread!:D

The Guv is one of the only clubs that I go to, because of the big DJ's. Yes, it gets hot and over packed, but wtf cares??? I get over it and go back! Besides, the night is what you make of it. If you are going to stand there and complain about how hot and over crowed it is, your going to have a crappy night. So relax and enjoy the music and people around you! :)

Since when was the guv underground?

Underground is when you get a photocopied flier for some little illegal backalley party that nobody knows about except maybe a few hundred people. Guv never has been underground.

Guv has been and still is a place to go to hear the best cutting edge music the world has to offer. Is the place perfect? No. But some of the complaints on here are rediculous. There are some very valid points made but some complainers are so rediculous that its scary (such as people invading their circle clique or people bitching about whistlers).

I think half the problem is honestly in the attitude of half the people here. If you just went for the music like you say you do you wouldnt care what was going on. I do go for the music and as ive said before, ive been in venues so packed that it would make guv look like a swimming pool in february. Did i care? Not at all! In fact it added to the fun in some aspects. I was there for the music and that was it.

I know im going to get flamed for this, but i find many people on this board to be some of the most closed minded souls ive ever come across. This music sucks that music sucks... this club is the best and that one isnt so you etc etc. Lighten up people! Go to wherever floats your boat, enjoy it for what it is and then go home. Nowhere is perfect and if u expect perfection you will never get it. Guv is not for everyone, neither is boa nor system. Its all in personal choice. So stop going to venues you dont like and then bitching about it for a week after. If a Dj goes to a club you dont like you know what to expect. So go for the dj and the music and dont let it bother you. If it bothers you as much as you claim, stay home and put that DJs CD on. In the past there have been clubs i dont particularly like and ive taken my own advice and come out much further ahead.

And one more thing. You know when us older people talk about the good old days and the glory days of raves and parties? Well guess what? They were sweaty, unairconditioned, dirty, overpacked warehouses and every second person was blowing a whistle. The vibe was incredible and we had the time of our lives. You kids wouldnt last a second in 1990, or even 1996 for that matter.

My safety was at risk on Saturday night, and because of that, I will never go to the Guvernment again (unless I REALLY want to see a deejay, and the deejay is not playing in MTL).

I have only been to the Guvernment one other time where it has been packed, but not like that.

Nothing you, or anyone else can say can justify the conditions on saturday.

You can't compare the two at ALL.

People bitch about guv now because of the higher standards the clubbing community has set for itself and how on some of the BASIC standards, guv continues to disappoint. If every other venue in the city were as the one you described above, we'd all love the guv I imagine.

Like i said.. not many of you would survive back then.

Higher standards? Bull... just bigger complainers.

actually, you don't tell them anything, you make them wait and wait and wait and wait... they'll get the message and leave. especially when its -20 :D

Jay, I know you want to defend your club but this is a lost cause. Virtually every true partier here has had a good night wrecked and ripped to shreds by Guvernment Greed. And for those of us like myself who come back after a 6 month vacation, going back only reminds us of why we stopped going in the first place.

I tried to like the Guv. It was an okay, maybe even mystical experience the first few times, but those were times when they tried a little harder and I wasn't already tired of listening to music through earplugs and getting blinded by the lasers.

Guvernment today is, really and truly, nothing more than a tourist attraction. I go there and the place is dominated by two types of people - tourists and trendies, an "audience" wanting to "watch" the "show" and a meat market putting itself on public display for those tourists just to feed its ego. But I don't blame the patrons - how can I? Who else would consistently put up with such detestable management, with aggressive door searches and rude bouncers and a packed yet somehow dead crowd inside? It's not a party environment, it's a non-stop assault on one's senses and sanity, and even if you're lucky enough to find your groove in there, you just know it's not going to last for very long.

Their shady and oppressive business tactics have managed to stop most of Toronto's other clubs from getting off the ground, but their stranglehold won't last forever. I believe the people who say that pre-2000 Guv was magic week after week, even though I never experienced it myself, but it's obviously past its prime and will hopefully go silently into the night like so many other superclubs and make way for new faces in the scene.

alright guys, i think all the negative things that can be said about the guv have been said.
the problem's have been idetified but alas no solutions are in sight.

aren't there any rich people that can open a sweet club? and what the deal with the docks, doesnt it have enough money to bring top dj's? the docks seems like a good place to a big event. maybe lucid will teach the guv a lesson it deserves in the near future.
