The Who Hates The Guvernment After Lastnight Thread. (pg. 9)

my final word on this:( i hope this ends someday)

i've always believed it's the crowd who define the clubs, not vice versa, if a club can't provide that vibe anymore, too bad ...
ppl will move on and find a place they can enjoy.

system is getting better and better, boa is promising , even the docks has some bright future, if they act smart and wisely.

great clubs require great vision, and i'm not talking size, just plain and simple good vibe and mood and music.

i'd rather spend my money in a small but cool place like enjoy a good night @ boa/system even with local and no superstar djs than be forced to leave guv, b/c i can't breath and miss sasha or whoever plays.

what pisses me off, is guv fanatics who can't admit, things are changing and ppl will simply move on.

now i'll shut up and leave everyone in peace and happiness:happy2:

Jay, I know you want to defend your club but this is a lost cause. Virtually every true partier here has had a good night wrecked and ripped to shreds by Guvernment Greed. And for those of us like myself who come back after a 6 month vacation, going back only reminds us of why we stopped going in the first place.

I tried to like the Guv. It was an okay, maybe even mystical experience the first few times, but those were times when they tried a little harder and I wasn't already tired of listening to music through earplugs and getting blinded by the lasers.

Guvernment today is, really and truly, nothing more than a tourist attraction. I go there and the place is dominated by two types of people - tourists and trendies, an "audience" wanting to "watch" the "show" and a meat market putting itself on public display for those tourists just to feed its ego. But I don't blame the patrons - how can I? Who else would consistently put up with such detestable management, with aggressive door searches and rude bouncers and a packed yet somehow dead crowd inside? It's not a party environment, it's a non-stop assault on one's senses and sanity, and even if you're lucky enough to find your groove in there, you just know it's not going to last for very long.

Their shady and oppressive business tactics have managed to stop most of Toronto's other clubs from getting off the ground, but their stranglehold won't last forever. I believe the people who say that pre-2000 Guv was magic week after week, even though I never experienced it myself, but it's obviously past its prime and will hopefully go silently into the night like so many other superclubs and make way for new faces in the scene.

Aaron.....if i went to school a little bit longer, thats the way i would have put it. Good job man.

alright guys, i think all the negative things that can be said about the guv have been said.
the problem's have been idetified but alas no solutions are in sight.

aren't there any rich people that can open a sweet club? and what the deal with the docks, doesnt it have enough money to bring top dj's? the docks seems like a good place to a big event. maybe lucid will teach the guv a lesson it deserves in the near future.

Docks is not bad but nobody goes there even though it's Godskitchen fridays...
Lucid won't teach the Guv anything because it's a completely different club with a completely different "Target audience" and a completely different idea. Guvernment in Toronto is like a brand name by now - you can't take it away from it.
Another thing i have a problem with people bitching about here is the idea of a "meat market". I seriously don't get it. why is there such a hostile attitude to certain people???!? In fact it kind of pisses me off...I'll admit I can't stand those gorilla-like shirtless guys that rub against me withtheir half shaven chests when they pass by me all sweaty but there's enough other nasty people in there that have nothing to do with the so called "meat market".
I've had a chance to meet and get to know some of those so called "ego people on display" as some of you called them here and I'd have to say that they are awesome people to party with and most of them are actually really nice...and very friendly people!

Anyways I'm frustrated by this attitude that people have about the club - it's like a stigma, they just have this one view of it and they are not willing to change or learn anything new...bah

And this has nothing to do with the fact that it's packed or full or whatever...i'm just generally frustrated with the overall ignorant and negative views that some people have here. :wtf:

I never really found the bouncers to be that rude by the way...imagine a club full of people....overpacked even...that's what 2,500 people in the main room they gotta keep the place secured. And the searching....well yeah obviously they search for stuff...there were enough shootings and stabbings in clubs i'd rather be safe than sorry...:thepirate

I mentioned this in my above post. I think half the problem is the attitude of the TAs themselves. Relax and maybe you will have fun whether its Guv, Boa, or your friends basement.

I dont hate the Guv, i love it... I dont like the ppl running it tho.. And I dont find the crowd to be so bad. Most of the time I go, the crowd is actually pretty good. Saturday night was the worst i ever experienced in terms of the crowd/vibe at guv, but that was one night, and itll take a few more to make me consider not going again.
BigTongue
I read the first 3 pages of this and it's the biggest bunch of BS i've ever read...

i've said it before & i'll say ti again.. trance/prog fans are the worst.. they complain about *EVERYTHING*

either it's too rammed (guv) or it's too empty (the docks)

either this dj sucked tonite, or this dj was good but no one respected him... some guy wearing a 50 cent jersey at a sasha show.. some guy trying to pick me up, this or that..

who cares? bottom line if it's too packed, don't go.. stop complaining.. pay $75 instead of 15$ and go see Danny T instead... but then we'll all be complaining about the $75 to get in..

LOL @ Big tongue...

Seems im not alone in my summation of the real problem at hand.

You cant assume ppl are just there for lasers and lightshows..... im there for the music a lot more then most but i dont mind getting the occasional light show.
Jayx1
lighting just adds to the experience of the music in my opinion. Especially when its well coreographed.

Lazers and lightshows are amazing...Music's great but all the effects add so much to the experience...they're amazing :happy2:

BigTongue is right... wayy too many ppl bitch/complain about stuff on here... however, some is justified, but sometimes, it does get excessive.
Jayx1
the anti-whistle thread is what blew me away the most. I wish i could transport all those complainers back in time.
