Can we please stop hijacking this thread now? Let's keep the focus on bashing the Guvernment, and not flogging a dead horse.

Oh there are a lot more than that...
[EDIT]
Here are the founders of that Association
Founding Agencies:

Ontario Medical Association
Canadian Cancer Society (Ontario division)
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario
Ontario Lung Association
Non-Smokers' Rights Association

As you can see...no "Government" there.
Are they going to lobby, of course they are, what kind of lame arguement is that?
If you want a law passed, that's what you do in this country.

But to show that I'm not being hypocritical, that same site has this:

We, at the Guvernment Nightclub, wish to apologize to those who expressed their displeasure of the July 10th evening.

Sasha was booked at the Guvernment at $15 to $20 per person, affording as many people as possible to attend. The response was so overwhelming that we tried to appease most patrons by bringing them in on time to see Sasha. Unfortunately, this caused confusion and discomfort for many, including our security staff who did not handle it properly.

Our intention was to provide you with a highly paid DJ, who is extremely popular, at a reasonable price. Twenty dollars per person is below average for a DJ of Sasha’s calibre. We do, however, take full responsibility for the regrettable behaviour of some of our security staff and to that end, we have reprimanded some and terminated others.

We take your comments seriously and wish to assure you that proper customer service is very important to us. We strive to treat all patrons with respect. We will do better next time.

Yours truly,

The Management

Nice to see a letter from Management actually responded to something we've said. But a letter isnt anything to me. Its comforting that they've heard what we said, but lets see what kind of actions they take. Im glad they realize that putting a top five dj in the world in the most popular club in the city for $15 and put NO CAP LIMIT on the amount of tickets they can sell. Start distributing proper tickets with a count that will not coincide with capacity, and things may get back to a proper party environment. Take some advice from Boa-Redux, who does this weekly so theres no way it gets out of control. Also, because theres a lower amount of cover charges, bump up the price from $15, to $25 flat...all night. That to me is fair, and may discourage those who are coming to the Guv just because its a "cheap thrill" and place to trip out and look at lazers. John, hopefully you can share our ideas to your managers and they can take our advice. Id love to come back to the Guv, but its going to take a lot of positive stories for me to step foot back in this place.

This letter is total bull... I think the following sums up why:

"The response was so overwhelming that we tried to appease most patrons by bringing them in on time to see Sasha. Unfortunately, this caused confusion and discomfort for many, including our security staff who did not handle it properly."

Response or no response, you have a capacity that should be enforced... when you reach that capacity you stop letting people in until other people leave... If someone didn't make it inside before capacity fills up, then don't let them in. Next time they'll learn to come early. Its not the management is going to change their shady practices.

I work for two restaurants, as well as a club, and the entire city is dead.

Is the no-smoking bylaw to blame?? Doubtfull. Face it, summer in Toronto is lame(except for us party kids), and most people flee the city, especially after Canada Day weekend, and take their two weeks vacation.

We are still only a year removed from SARS and Mad Cow, and the city hasn't recovered.. hell, the Indy weekend was light on attendance, and Canada Day was dead as well. Some clubs are the best in the summer, simply because they aren't filled, or have more of the regulars out since school is over/vacations are being taken.

As for the letter from the Guv, they needed to say a lot more IMO, especially regarding the overcrowding, but @ least they are listening(perhaps the Bouncer's behaviour was crowd flow related).

The complex needs to either keep each venue seperate and not allow traffic between them except on open houses like LoL, or keep the one-way flow, but only do it in blocks. (KH is @ capacity, so until 50ppl leave, may people start flowing in from Orange-room) There has to be some sort of way of tracking the paying entrance to each part of the complex until each room reaches capacity. Only when each one is full, should they allow MONITORED cross-flow, then switch the only entrance to the Guv/Main one, and only let in after people have been counted as out.
