I think that's because it's been around for ages and people know all the possible effects and long term effects of drinking. Nobody really knows completely all the effects and specifically long term effects of extasy...you guys even said it yourself.
And the reason it's not socially aceeptable is because you chose something to alter your state of mind - a chemical - a fake illusion almost and most people don't find that appealing...and from a general social point of you view it's absolutely correct. |

every think that God gave us the intelligence to create stuff? how do you know that he totally planned for us to design and make things that are pleasureable. If he didn't want us to seek out ways of making ourselves feel good, then he would never give us the smarts to figure things out. maybe he wanted us to find out own "button". |

It's not socially acceptable because most people are ignorant about it (like you) and only know that it's illegal. It's not illegal because it's a "fake illusion almost". :rolleyes: |

We do know the possible effects long term effects of drinking. They're not pretty. SO why is it still accepted? The answer is that magikal word again, Moderation. IMO, you should be more worried about something like using cell phones and the possibility of brain tumors. But hey, we know thats accepted, and by enuff ppl, and we really dont know the long term effects, do we?

Alcohol, opium, crack, and weed have been around forever as well, but all save alcohol are not socailly acceptable. Why?
Can't be because they're addictive, because tobacco is accepted as a morally ok thing to do.
Can't be because it's mind altering, because alcohol definately alters your mind state.
Can't be because it's natural, as all of the above drugs are naturally occuring. |

Well tobacco....let's not even go there :thepirate I'm very anti smoking as well and i think it's becomming a lot less socialy acceptable lately too...
But anyways yes alcohol is not a very good thing either :) But I don't think that being a stupid drunk is very socially acceptable either - society usually looks down on those kind of people. :)
Anywho...i gotta get out of this discussion :p
