Drugs, be it weed, alcohol, E, or anything else, is definately not good for your body. I will agree that moderate amount may not be that harmful, but dont agree with djbruuen because it does still have bad effects on your body. Remember, with E, as high as you are that night, you get an equal low the next day LOL :D And im sure the long term effects arent very great either. However, this is no different from weed or alcohol, two drugs that are more socially accepted, and therefore deemed less dangerous.
E is bad for you, i hope nobody is stupid enough to agrue against that. Sure, it may be fun and relatively safe, however there are negative effects on you body when you use it. I think more of the problem lies in getting bad pills/crap out there. That really s you up, and there is reaelly no positive effect when you do it.
IMO, if you do it at a moderate rate, and nomatter how cautious you are, by doing the drug you are doing harm to your body. Is it worth it to you? many would say yes, and thats fine for them. I'm not gonna judge because i've answered this question with a "yes" enough times. However, personally, i've come to realise that it is just not worth the risk anymore. I've had my fun, and I dont want to put myself at any further risk, short or long term. Mainly because I feel the negative effects have began to outweigh the positive. The only reason I would consider doing it again would be to be able to stay up the whole night and party.
1 more thing, djbruuen said that ppl on E act ed up n stuff, and some of you argued against that too. E can make ppl act stupid at times, although the majority of ppl dont. I think this does happen, and its mostly ppl that are just begining to use it and havent gotten use to controlling themselves really when theyre under the influence. I've witnessed it and experienced it myself personally. I will say however that there will be ppl that act stupid on alcohol or any other drug. You cant really say its just E. I'd say the big ups to worry about are the ones that do rails and combine with other drugs (i.e. the ones i saw at Viva). Men in their forty's shaking and grasping theirs heads, falling to the ground and rolling around, and sometimes passing out is a scary sight. :nervous: |

I'm trying to be sarcastic here because I'm sure that you started your report already thinking that MDMA is "bad", there are a lot of articles that refute the neurotoxicity of MDMA. You were biased in your reseach because you did not look at it from both ways.

Hey at least he researched it! Theres a lot of ppl out there that would do it without knowing anything about it, or even choose not too because someone told him it was very bad. I give him credit that he actually decided to further investigate into it. Don't knock him for that. He was just defending himself because DigiNut was telling him to grow up and smarten up. No offense, but its ppl that do illegal drugs that need to grow up and smarten up. As you get older, your priorities change, and it’s a phase you grow out of (for the most part).
Also, although DigiNut does sometimes sound like a jackass when he chooses to argue his point, this time I think he had good reason.

when u called ppl that do E low-life losers, u went wrong dude. Don’t judge everyone especially if you haven’t done it. If its not for you that’s fine, but don’t say things like that when you haven’t experienced it. |

i can go to a club, spend $40 on alcohol...and be tired early, feel like absolute the next day, forgot alot of what happenned, and have an okay fun time...while not being able to drive home..err another $15 on a cab
or i can spend $15 on a cap of e, pop 2 halfs throughout teh night, not spend $40 on alcohol, remember everything, have a high that is 10 time better, and turn a really good night into a memorable one...drive home sober....while feeling just a tad droggy the next day but nothing as bad as a booze hangover..
so, i do this maybe once a month..when i know a party is gonna be amazing........it's called use not abuse.........no worse then drinking imho...
anyway, if it wasn't for one pill in 1999 i probably would never have discovered the scene which i am now such a part of...hell take a friend who hates dance music, hates trance, get them a good clean pill(only do pills that are safe...never take a pill from someone you don't know or are unsure about it's contents) and take em to a party that has a good crowd and vibe, and watch them turn inside out.....
yeah people who take 4 pills every weekend are just dumb and have problems...honestly it does have an effect on your brain....but once a month or twice a month...there is nothing wrong with that and those that shun others for it should relax a bit...ya only live once..enjoy it while it lasts...
now ghb on the other hand :P |
The question is WHY do you need to spend $40 on alcohol??? Why can't you go to a club and enjoy yourself WITHOUT being under influence of some chemical substance??? What is the reason that drives you to be "on" something? You're saying it as if someone is twisting your arm that you have no choice but to do it...so what's twisting your arm dude? ;)
So if your friend HATES trance then yes - you should give him drugs and take him to a party :stongue: that's just great! So in other words you're saying he's not there for the party really and he's only enjoying himself cause he's high (or she...not to discriminate :p ) |

People who use drugs and alcohol aren't necessarily doing it because they CANT go and be sober. It's because drugs and alcohol can enhance a night out. Yes you can have fun sober, but most people have MORE fun not sober (in varying degrees). The key is practicing moderation and knowing how to mitigate risk.
This argument has been had on this board too many times. |

I know what youre saying it's just the way he said it - and the comparison he made is not a very good example...it's as if well I HAVE to do it anyway so I might as well do the other thing... :)
It's like when you ask kids why do they smoke weed - they'll say - "...oh well at least I don't smoke cigarettes..." It's a dumb easy excuse - it's as if they HAVE to smoke something :p:happy2: |

While your point about priorities may be true, that stands for just about any recreational activity and not simply drugs.
Do you honestly that these drugs were criminalized in our best interests? A lot of people have the mistaken idea that because something is against the law, it's wrong/bad for you, and vice versa. Except that's simply not true. Just clear your head a little, take a few steps back from the forest, and try not to see it through the trees, and it should be pretty obvious.
Black market dealing and government prosecution are a symbiotic relationship. The entire system of "illicit" drugs was developed by the government to expand its control over society, using fear and junk science as a means of accomplishing it (because after all, it COULD kill you). It also has the added side benefit of making money through corruption. Manufacturers and dealers make their money precisely because of the law, and governments can continue to dig their tentacles further into society because of the black market. There are only two entities that benefit here: government and dealers. The general public is NOT one of them - criminalization makes it impossible to properly educate people or do medical testing.
Consider how many "legal" drugs are out there:
- DXM
- Alcohol
- Codeine
- Ephedra
- Caffeine
- PPA (which I believe was finally banned by the FDA)
- Prempro
- A wide variety of sleeping pills
And many more. And these are just the OTC kind - there are many more prescription drugs that are far more dangerous, like Zoloft. Coca Cola also used to containe cocaine. If you think these things are any less dangerous than MDMA, you really haven't done your homework.
There's only one real difference between legal and illegal drugs: illegal drugs aren't patented by pharmaceutical companies, and can be manufactured by anyone with the equipment and knowledge.
When governments tried to place prohibition laws on alcohol, people laughed in their faces. Everybody was already too familiar with alcohol to fall for a gimmick like that. Drugs like MDMA were a different story though - they were newer, didn't carry as much research, and in general easier to scare people with.
Everybody continues to ask why a person "needs" to drink or take a pill. Of course there will always be reckless people who get psychologically addicted (again, MDMA is not chemically addictive), but for the most part, it is only the same as people who "need" to smoke weed, eat chocolate, or play sports. They're all just different kinds of recreational activities involving some degree of risk. If you don't want to take risks, maybe you should just sit at home in front of your computer and listen to MP3s instead of going out to a club at all (that is, if you can stand the risk of cancer caused by the radiation in your monitor). |

Ahmm.....yeah....and give me some examples of illegal things that are good for you :clown:
By the way the other drugs you've mentioned hold a certain purpose for people who are suffering from certain problems. By no shape or form they are meant to be taken for fun  They all have side effects and you are warned about them as well, not to mention MOST of them go through very serious testing and standardized processes which makes the idea of a "bad pill" almost impossible :) |

I agree. The only reason i said "illegal" drugs tho, was because of alcohol. It is something many ppl dont grow out of because of age. Whether they should or shouldnt is a diff story, entirely up to the individual.
I agree, a lot of drugs that are legal, can be very harmful too. I'm not questioning the government's motives for making something legal/illegal, thats kind of irrelevant to my point.
All im saying is, as you grow up, your priorities change. There are many reasons why ppl stop, ie. getting married, having kids and trying to set a good example. Doing somthin against the law isnt setting a good example IMO. -Thats where im comin from here.
And i thought u were telling djbruuen to grow up because he chooses not to ever try it, and sees E as "bad." Maybe you said that because he deemed everone that does E a "low-life." If thats the case, I take it back. |

*EDIT*
Actually no i don't agree with you on that one...If I was a parent I wouldn't want my kid growing my in such environment...Usually there are a lot of other negative things attached to prostitution and I think that's one of the main reasons why it's ilegal. |

Oh. Okay. But it's perfectly fine for you to make accusations about people you see in clubs who you know even less, right? Besides, all I said was that you're ignorant on the subject, which you clearly are.
| quote: | | 1. As everyone knows, drugs are abused, and often they're mixed with alcohol and other things that can highten the chances of getting seriously ill. or even fatal read this article *CLICK* |
So you equate drug users with abusers? By that logic, the French would all be alcoholics, drinking their wine every day.
If you think you're going to impress us with an article on neurotoxicity, keep in mind that we've all already seen the research (well most of us anyway). The NT studies used dosages in *rats* that I don't think any human is even capable of taking, and a safe human dosage is obviously higher than that of rats. It's good to be familiar with the risks, and to exercise moderation, but that totally does not justify your offensive comments.
| quote: | | btw. i'm also a university student who has written a report on the drug, i'm not just some MTV watcher believing everything i see (please don't assume , thats my biggest pet peeve on these boards) and yes methylenedioxymethamphetamine statisically caused 102 deaths from 1999-2001 in USA. to me, thats kinda high for something that can be prevented. |
Well whoopie , most of us here are also university students or (*gasp*) graduates! What the hell does MTV have to do with this anyway? The MDMA hype is all in the papers and news networks, not MTV, and I have a strong feeling that's where you got the information which you based your initial opinions on.
I mean, 102 deaths in 3 years? More people are shot than that. More people drown. More people get crushed having sex with fat people. FAR more people die from causes related to prescription drugs, OTC drugs abuse, and alcohol.
| quote: | | 2. This comment comes from the ppl i see falling around and acting like complete idiots while i'm at a club. I have no comment on what these ppl are like outside of the club, but while they're on the drug they're making it hard for other ppl to enjoy themselves by getting in other ppls way and having no sense of what they're doing 'i don't define "loser" by physical appearence if thats what you assumed, i think what makes a loser is the negative actions of an individual" |
These people are drunk, not rolling. The only real way to tell the difference between someone who's sober and someone who's on ecstasy is, as someone else said, to shine a flashlight into their eyes and check out their pupils. Doing this would make YOU an , not them. Other than dilated pupils, people on E are really just more sociable and more energetic than normal, a behaviour you cannot possibly recognize unless you already know the person very well or you're on E yourself.
| quote: | | 3. I do not condone those actions in the past other then, we were all young right? we all do stupid things and thats how we learn. I don't drink often anymore and when i do, its usually at house parties, and can't even afford to drink at clubs with the alcohol prices they charge. The weed thing, i do it so sparingly its not even an issue. i think i've smoked weed maybe 2-3 times in all of 2004, not to condone that thats exceptable either, but i've done enough research on the drug to know it won't suck me in to bad habits, which it hasn't |
I'm surprised you drink at all if you're a recovering alcoholic. You say you can't drink at clubs with the prices they charge - would you do it if the prices were lower? Do you realize that a pill costs a lot less and leads to a lot better night with less damage to the body? Trust me, the liver is better at filtering 100 mg of MDMA than it is at 500 mL (or about 500 g) of alcohol.
| quote: | | 4. i'm never been pressured about E, but i'm constantly asked for it or if i want it, and that gets old fast |
No . What does that have to do with peer pressure? If anybody out there can't say no to a club dealer then it would indicate to me that they're either stupid or have had a total frontal lobotomy. I wouldn't even recommend people who are LOOKING for E buy from those people because there's absolutely no way to know what you're really getting.
| quote: | | 5. the ppl who take it take it for fun??? and you're trying to sound smart in this post? ppl drive cars at 200km/h in 50 zones for fun, ppl play with fire for fun...but when that car runs over a kid on his bike, or a person gets there arm severly burned, its no longer "fun" |
What does this have to do with (a) the point I originally made, or (b) anything?
| quote: | | and yes, i do have a very good time at guvernment being completely clean of drugs, smokes and alcohol. because I LIKE THE MUSIC!!!!. as simple as that. |
Well I'll be a monkey's uncle, SO DO I!!!! WE HAVE SO MUCH IN COMMON, isn't that AMAZING!!??
What do you think, people who take ecstasy in clubs DON'T like the music? Why would they go to clubs then!? Don't tell me you buy into the "RAVE ACT" hype that the only place people can get drugs is inside a club?
