haha, thought this was going to become a battle thread for a second.
i totally agree with you on this on sly. that might be because i come from an atheist family, but yeh, i don't think that others should really be using things like family ties and guilt to push religious beliefs on others. as long as the parents aren't restricting the kid's access to christian beliefs or whatever, wtf, let them choose to be parents as they see fit. if there really is a god, let him decide. if not, then nobody really has to worry. then again, what if the hindus or buddhists have it right? (i'll steer away from a theological debate.)
and hey, tell her at least they're not converted wiccans or something... :toothless |

+1. i'm all for religion and i think its a great thing, but i'm not religious at all and therefore cannot stand when someone pushes their beliefs on me. thats the ONLY thing that really gets to me and actually turns me off to religion more than anything else. |

religion does not equal peace. some religions are designed to promote peace but most have been warped so that they represent different things. i dont have a problem with good people but the idea that you have to believe in a higher power in order to be able to be a good person is rediculous, IMO. |

She should stay out of other peoples lives and let them raise their child the best way they feel fit. Personally, I believe that people who need to have "God" as a major part of their life and rely on religion to tell them what to do are weak minded individuals and should be banished from this planet. |

hmm. so many ways i could affably disagree with you. i do agree that stupid people and propaganda can create war, but smart people in powerful places combined with mass belief and devoted following (or just plain fear) can also create wars. big ones.
in too many cases the principles and morals embraced fundamentally in almost all mass religions have been completely warped or eclipsed by misinterpretation (intentional or otherwise), and with mass followings come the potential for mass destruction. |

it's all a matter of perspective.
i just think religion separates moreso than brings people together.
