Indeed. Really deep and drummy. I can't get enough of this guy.

I actually enjoyed his sets quite a bit too, but for the opposite reason - that they weren't just a bunch of boring drums. They're groovy, sort of mood music with a bit of punch.

...Like you're solving a mystery, hahaha. Seriously, it is the same type of beats we were savouring at CB during that moment of silliness.

On the topic of "drummy", what I found interesting was that in the beatport interview with Adam Beyer (Called "Adam Beyer's favorite tracks" or something, on youtube), Adam said that "tribal" is coming back in techno, as evidenced by Steve Lawler's upcoming drumcode release, along with some other top tracks out now. I haven't a clue what he's talking about on account of not being on beatport or out at techno events or downloading techno sets in the last couple of months...but is that true?

From the clips on youtube, his Cielo set sounded incredibly funky and groovy, and if that's the sound he is talking about, then I will be sure to catch him next time he's here. (Next October, probably!)

When he played last week, there was definately some tribal influenced drums in some of the tracks.

I'd agree that tribal sounds are coming back to techno too.

And Aaron, what I meant by "drummy" is not that he played strip down tracks with only drums in it, but that he played lots of tracks with interesting/funky drum loops. These loops really stood out for me in the set.

Funny thing - When I was searching for tribal sets a couple years ago I stumbled across the likes of RPO (Rick Pier O'Neil) and DJ Cave, both playing Tribal-Techno...ing banging techno with severe case of Drummitis!!! Looks like it's becoming a recent trend now!

LOVES IT!!!!

What Digweed played when he was here about a month ago kind of had the tribal bounce to it. I wouldn't say that the "drummy" sounds were that prevalent, but the feel and structure of the songs were definately reminiscent of what you would get out of tribal tracks. I'm talking from a straight structural perspective here. To me, tribal = bounce.

its the rolling basslines that i love about "tribal". i think its awesome since im still tribal at heart and with so much techno/minimal going on, its getting boring and repetitive. the drummy sound adds some character

Look for Cave, Ben Sims and even Beyer from around 2000 - 2003 ish

Lots of this sound going on and its good to hear it's trying to make a comeback.
