Most hotels don't even bother with reservations because of the demand because of it being Memorial Day Weekend... they jack the prices the week prior and weekend of. Not just because of DEMF!
RenCen probably lost money from actual guests who wanted to rest, sleep, enjoy the convention center without passing rolly'eyed kids stumblin up and down the halls, finding empty cans of redbull everywhere, seeing people hanign out and bobbing their head to the sounds of the maids cleaning the carpets with the vacums...
I heard Marriot was bunk tho? Only guests on the room could enter and they were very strict with no liqour/beer and if they caught even one infraction ie. noise complaint or any other violation you were out with no warning?
I'm still mulling over getting a hotel tho, even being in Windsor, it beats driving, beats the long tunnel bus lineups, no BORDER/CUSTOM hassle! Plus day time drop offs for dranks or a rest and no worries about afterparties and the tunnel bus being done.
ANNNND your car won't get locked up and held captive in a underground parking garage overnight till 8am the next morning because the bitch attendent lied about it being 24hrs and me never considering that the boat party ended at 4am!!! :whip:
As for line up, not really to concerned... of course there are people I would LOVE to see... but really, has Paxahau failed us in recent years? If you don't like one stage, there is another one that may tickle ur bean... and if you don't know anyone at any stage at that time of day/night... go check out which ever stage seems to be having more fun and maybe you'll learn/experience a new DJ/arrist/act?!
I had no idea who the Wignomhy Brothers were before last DEMF, only heard of them... happened to walk to the BP stage as they were getting started and it probably was the set of the weekend for me!
SO EXCITED! Already booked the weekend (and a few days after;)) off from work! |

Not true. The price of the Marriott the week before DEMF is the same price as what I paid for the week OF DEMF last year. The rates just get higher the later you wait.
Marriott was DEFINITELY NOT bunk. The hotel was amazing, and they treated us incredibly well (holding our bags after we checked out, very pleasant service, good security etc.). People had music playing too all hours of the morning, as long as it was at a reasonable level (which is just like any other hotel). The alcohol thing was not true. Everybody had alcohol in the place. I think they just didn't want people carrying open alcohol around - which is fair, especially at a nicer hotel.
Security was a must b/c they don't want all kinds of hooligans to be partying at the hotel (again a nicer hotel). All you had to show was a room key to get to the elevators. And as long as you were WITH someone that had a room key, you'd be fine.
Very professionally, well run. Incredible service. I've stayed at Marriott's before and love them...well worth the price. It's too bad we can't book at the Renaissance this year though. Courtyard isn't as nice :(
***Also, I just checked availability for the Courtyard, and it says there's nothing available for DEMF dates*** |

Maybe i'm thinking of the wrong hotel? :conf:
North side of Jefferson? Across the street from the RenCen? Come out the tunnel and it's right across the intersection on your right (NE corner)?
Ahh well... maybe I should rent a caravan and park it on the curb of DEMF! :haha: |

That's the Courtyard Marriott. The majority of us (incl. myself, Ian, Shelly, Lars, Jay, Graham etc.) stayed at the Marriott Renaissance which is right in the RenCen. The Courtyard is a cheaper Marriott. Same as Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn select.
I haven't stayed at the Courtyard, so I don't know what their policies were. |
