Ricardo is def a bit overrated, but I think that comes with the whole thing that he hasn't come to the US for a while, being a bit of a music genius, plus he's a very hard booking to get anywhere in the world. But you all have to admit, when he's on, his sets are nothing short of a f*cking revelation.
I doubt Richie will be a miss @ home... but you never know. Like you said, I'm one of them hoping he better play the best set of his life. I've seen Richie miss way too many times. Combine that with the fact that I'm stuck with the boat tickets, and I will be very pissed off if he sucks. |
I've never been a fan of Ricardo. Most of his sets i grabbed didnt do much for me... However this changed when i saw him live in MTL@Metropolis. OMG! really the guy must be seen. I was really hoping to see him again.....and i had wet dreams of a possible b2b w/ Richie..
Richie's set 2 years ago was amazing @ demf, so was his set in windsor @ BBR. I am not worried that he wont deliver. Glad to see magda on the boat too, wasnt gonna see her in the underground stage! |

Since DEMF finished last year I’ve been counting down the days to return. I’ve attended DEMF for the past 4 years now. I have not once complained about the lineup, the weather, dj cancellations, or what hotel I ended up in. I’ve noticed people in Toronto are spoiled and need to give more respect from the promoters and paxahau. I know Richardo may have canceled, but there will be some major talent in store for this weekend. Besides, since when has Toronto be able to come together and organize a festival of this magnitude. DEMF is about amazing vibes, nice weather, perfect venue, sick location, great organization, extraordinary music, ear tingling sound, cultural people, and all around great times! I always wondered why we complain on here about certain djs attending, or canceling. When Really? If you don’t like who's playing... move to the next stage. Don’t forget to give some of the no namers a chance, you’ll be surprised.
Sorry for my rant… See you all this weekend! |

This is all very true, which is why I got over the cancellation news so quickly. I've been to DEMF 3 out of the 4 past years for a reason (only reason I missed one of the years was because I was out of the country). |

Hawtin and Ricardo have always been a bit of hit and miss, but when they are on-point its damn near unmatchable.
The Richie vs Ricardo set from Mutek still gives me chills when I listen to it (so happy that set was recorded). |
care to upload it? |

There should be more tickets avail at the willcall, there was last year. And should be especially this year becase of the refunds GETTICKETS are giving out.
It's a chance, but if you wait till closer of departure for the boat, they sell more. Many people buy tickets, then bail out cuz they are too raved out from the day... so if they are not at capacity they will let people on. |

Saftey in Detroit...for those of you not experienced with it.
Detroit is NOT that bad of a city, but it isn't good either...
Here are my tips for out of towners, some may not agree or think i'm being stupid, but I've lived in Windsor all my life and been to the D many times...many great places, many awesome people. As Fedde said, it's a lovely city. But everywhere has it's bad, and there is a reason that it get's its reputation.
Need to be careful, especially with many of us not aware of the areas, nieghbourhoods, venues and at night. ie. The Works is not in the best area, St Andrews has it's fair share of weird in it's surroundings.
Detroit is an animal so treat it as such.
Don't act afraid, Detroit smells fear...
Don't cower and retreat either...
Don't fluff your feathers like a bird to appear aggresive, Detroit preys on that. Don't be loud, don't be beligerant, don't be disrepectful...
Ignore anything "Detroit'ish", don't make a scene, don't gawk, act like it's normal, don't point and don't make it obvious that you and your friends are talking about it. This means anything, people you see, actions, places, etc...
Don't walk alone, keep your cell phone at all times (but don't be on it all the time letting everyone know you have a $500+ iphone/BlackBerry), keep minimal cash and don't dress flashy (ie, expensive watches, jewlery, etc)..
May seem like common sense, but just letting you all know as a friendly reminder! ;)
I bet some Detroit peeps who are viewing this thread will make fun of me lol...
Don't be afraid, BUT be careful...
But have fun... don't let the above put a bad taste in your mouth, enjoy DEMF and meet new amazing people and see brilliant cool places... but be safe!
18 more hours... |
