Really, in this scenario his family would be even more selfish than he ever was. The person felt death was the only way out and the family wants to compare their suffering with the suffering of someone that couldn't even cope with life!?

My mothers brother committed suicide. She was in her junior year of college, he was in grad school.
She continued in classes for a while, but after going to Egypt for 2 months she came back and had a mental break down. She attributed it culture shock, but really she said later it was not dealing with her brothers death.
My grandfather slipped into a deep depression that he never got out of. He lived for another 35 years wondering if he could have done anything to save his son or treated him better or whatever goes through a parents head.
My grandmother... who knows what happned to her, she is so selfish anyways... who knows.
My other aunts as well, totally devastated. |

You know, I think there is actually surprising potential in someone who so thoroughly rejects the life that society has mapped out for them that they would instead choose death. The problem is that even though on some level they reject that life, their rejection is still grounded in the assumptions that underlie the very society that they would part ways with.
That's still a lot of baggage to unpack before they can become a worthwhile individual. |

I'm sorry to hear that but, really, if they didn't know how to cope with his death, this is hardly his problem. Had he decide to go on living, would they mind the fact that he was miserably moping around thanks to them? As I said, that would be really selfful of them. |
