If any pitcher lets that go to his head, he does not deserve to be a major league pitcher. You're crazy if you think he's affected by it. I think it's hilarious that Pedro said it. I think he's one of the funniest characters in baseball. He's always making me laugh with the things he says and does. |

| to some extent i believe it gets to him, it definitely didn't rattle him since he pitched a really good game. It possibly even fueled him as his 4 seam had some pop and his 2seam was getting some nice movement. |

hmmm did this thought run through anyone's head?
maybe by leaving himself open by calling the yankees his daddy, he is trying to maybe reconcile for what he did to Zimmer last year in the playoffs. that way he can sign with us as a free agent.

could be a thought but IMHO kind of farfetched...as zimmer is no longer on torre's right. I see Beltran coming to CF, although the thought of Pedro in the rotation might be just what the yankee's need to be a fully dominant team, I doubt it'll happen. Honestly, it would do wonders for his reputation in ny and in boston.
I still like the idea of Bernie playing another 2 years and acquisition of Beltran being taught by the CF Legend. What do you think? Bernie taking the bench with Luis Lee and Donny. Now will Willie take the coaching position, will Girardi do the same, I don't know. |

I would love for Bernie to keep playing...but will his body let him?
I really think Willie will take the Mets job. Girardi i think will stay in the booth at YES. He is doin a great job there. Now all we have to do is get rid of Michael Kay. He was great on the radio, but now his head has gotten too big for his shoulders. |

If Pedro has any kind of sack, he would be inspired to shove it down everyone's throat with 9 innings of shut out ball. Unfortunately, sometimes no matter how hard you want something, guys can get hits off you. It probably did provide a little bit more juice on his fastball. That whole comment was so surprising because I always thought of him as not backing down to anybody.
I don't think the chanting gets in his head, I think just the fact that the Yankees beat him again and again enough for him to have doubts in his head. Once a professional athlete gets doubt in their head, they start to lose their effectiveness. Being a dominant pitcher is heavily reliant upon confidence, even arrogance. It's like "here's my fastball, try to catch up with, you don't have a chance."
See Chuck Knoblauch or Rick Ankiel for extreme examples of mental paranoia.
To me, a lot of Pedro's comments lately show traces of doubt. Even his comments about that he is happy to know that this attention beats not having 50 cents to take the bus sitting under a mango tree 15 years ago. Shouldn't he say something more like what Schilling said about shutting everybody up? |
