***MORNING REVIEW***
What a game - I give Boston all the credit they deserve. Last night's preformance was outstanding baseball. Lowe pitched a wonderful game. Damon made up for every at bat earlier in the series. There isn't much more to say. Time for a new thread to give Boston the credit they deserve...ESPECIALLY from me, the DIE-HARD Yankee Fan.
All homeruns last night were seeing eye shots. They were all driven with power and none of them deserve the cheese poke shot that Bellhorn had in Game6.
Since these boards are so great when it comes to Baseball it's time for the Penant Race. Who will it be? Cards vs Boston, Astro's vs Boston. Who knows! |

Congrats Boston, your our daddy. Go Astros! :tongue2
Yanks won't be that great next year... too much wasted space with overpriced contracts. Any team with Pay-Rod on it is gonna fail. It was weird liking a guy who I absolutely hated for many years (I grew up in the Seattle area so I know about that guy). I guess that's the era we now live in with so many players changing teams.
25 million to Brown and Vasquez. Yippee!!!
80 million left for Giambi. Thanks for letting me watch Tony Clark, the human windmill.
They are in desperate need of some younger talent that comes through the farm system. Unfortunately, they have one of the worst minor league systems.
Yanks make trade to get a new frontline starter for their future... they trade Ted Lilly for Jeff Weaver. Doh! Lilly makes the all-star team and is left handed. Weaver can't handle NY. Yanks trade to get new frontline starter for their future... Javier Vasquez. Grand slam... DOH! Schilling goes to Red Sox instead.
Whose the next Cashman future ace that is going to implode?
Kevin Brown is a piece of crap! Please go somewhere...
Pitching, pitching, pitching, pitching... that's what wins championships. Not A-Rod's baby swipes at the opposing pitcher. |

| I wanted to also give credit to Boston where it's deserved. They clawed their way back into a series no one gave them a chance to win. They pulled through in the clutch and their pitching staff was amazing from starters to bullpen, in the last 4. As much as the Yankees have won in the past, it's hard for me to be disappointed. We can't win it every year. But I'm glad I'm a Yankee fan, even though my whole family supports the Mets. Ha! |

yankees should suffer..a salary like that and cant win in the playoffs..HAHAHAHAHAHA WHOS UR DADDY |
Red Sox this year also have a ridiculous salary, not as ridiculous as the yankees, but they are the 2nd most expensive team and quite a bit above the team in third place... |

I am going to have to disagree with you there. Have you forgotten what A-Rod and the rest of the yanks did the first three games? They murdered the Red Sox pitching. While I dont agree with what he did in Game 6, It's his first year in pinstripes and needs to be taught how to be a yankee. *cough* Derek you listening? Maybe A-Rods head is too fat for that now, but its worth a shot. (Dont forget also that it was Arroyo that drilled him earlier in the season that started that war with Varitek) I would have probably knocked him over too if I saw him running at me full speed. But thats beside the point. The reason why we lost the series was due to dumb decisions by Torre. You would think that the world series bungle in 2001 would have taught Torre to stop bringing Mo in in the 8th inning. Pitch around Ortiz? How about it? No, lets throw him a meatball right over the plate not once, not twice, but three times. How about pitching el-Duque for game 7? He has been money for us the whole second half while both Brown and Vasquez have stumbled. I am still scratching my head over these decisions. |

The only guy almost guaranteed to return is Varitek. |
Really? I thought I heard that after this season Varitek is a free agent. Also Varitek, I thought, didn't like all the hooplah and "free-spirited" celebration and pranks in the Red Sox locker room.
Of course now I don't remember where I read or heard this, might've been ESPN.. but I distinctively remember hearing that Varitek is a free agent after this season, and that he may not return to Boston next year... :( |

Yeah... it's not neccesarily the salary to me. It's the players. The Yankees are just superstar after superstar after superstar. The Red Sox have guys like Bellhorn, Nixon, Mueller, Cabrera, and Millar starting. When these guys were on other teams, no one cared at all about them and no one knew who they were. I dunno... it's like comparing apples to oranges. |

Tek is a free agent. As are Cabrera, Lowe, Martinez, Williamson. I think Tek is Epstein's top priority though because you won't find many catchers that his like he does, he has great relationships with the pitchers, and many Sox point to him as the leader in the clubhouse. I say they sign Tek and Cabrera. Possibly Williamson as well. |

Anyway, the Yankees were much more enjoyable when they just didn't go out and try to buy everybody to fill holes (it does resemble the late 80's). Rather, back in the "good ol' days" they had just the right mix of homegrown talent (Jeter, Bernie, Posada, Rivera, Pettite), key free agent signings (Key, Boggs, El Duque, Stanton), and clever trades (Cone, Tino, O'Neil, Brosius).
Some of the heart is missing from this year's teams. I really miss Paulie, Brosius, and Tino. Compare those 3 to their current respective counterparts in Sheff, A-Rod, and Giambi. The current Yanks all have better stats but when it comes to the playoffs... c'mon the results are obvious. It seems today's guys that emotional punch and swagger that Paulie, Brosius, Coney, etc. had. Get somebody that's gonna kick the opposition down and then step on their necks! You think with Paul O'Neill that there would start to be doubt creeping in or that they would relax before the total job was done?
What's gonna happen, they're gonna try to go out a plug their weak pitching with a bunch of free agents? I fear that's not gonna work. Put more money into their farm system!! Beltran is freaking awesome but it isn't gonna solve anything.
If the Yanks would have had just a below average farm system and not probably the WORST in the league, they couldn't have got Randy Johnson. With Randy, they'd still be playing!!!!
Soon Posada, Rivera, Bernie will be gone. Then what? Just a mass collection of free agents and hit or miss trades. Good regular season team... but a championship contender?
Wonderful.. I can't wait for another Danny Tartabull signing. |

I've been comparing them to the 80's Yankees since February. And it's going to be like this for a LONGGGG time. Pretty much until Steinbrenner is out of the picture. |
