Boston might as well celebrate like they won the WS because it aint happening.

You know, I can almost guarantee, if the Redsox beat the Yankees in the ALDS or ALCS, it would be bigger than them winning the WS at this point - WS would just be the cherry.

Next game's in New York, right? Yeah, bye-bye.

Game 5 is in Boston.

In the games Pedro pitches, the Red Sox are 6-19 since May of 2001. Not exactly inspiring numbers. He had extra velocity on his fastball last time because he had 7 days of rest. He always fairs better on more rest because his arm is a little worn out. He won't go past 6 tonight! At least it gives Pedro one last game in Fenway. One last memory of oh so close, but yet still far.

Mussina has done very well historically at Fenway. He also is pitching with a great deal of confidence and a rested arm. He needs to go long though. Both bullpens are shot but I would expect to see Wakefield tonight in relief.

I don't think Rivera is what he was before but there's no way he's blowing it again. And could Foulke pitch tonight after 2+ innings last night?

I know a lot of Yankee fans are now nervous but I'm not one of them.

Last note for next year's team:

Jeter, Rodriguez, Sheffield, Giambi, Beltran, Matsui

Have fun.....

I think before the Yankees start dealing for Beltran, they better start looking for some starting pitchers. Loaiza is going to be a free agent and probably will not get resigned by the Yankees. Vazquez needs to 'redevelop' his strike zone and stop pitching people down the middle giving up an ass load of runs. Kevin Brown is getting old and who knows how his arm will last next year.

As for the revamped team... how retarded would this look:

CH: Jorge Posada
1B: Jermey Giambi
2B: Miguel Cairo (if resigned)
SS: Derek Jeter
3B: Alex Rodriguexz
LF: Hideki Matsui
CF: Carlos Beltran
RF: Gary Sheffield
DH: Bernie Williams

Pitchers:
Mike Mussina
Jaret Wright
Kevin Brown
Odalis Perez
Jose Vazquez
John Lieber
Tanyon Sturtze
Paul Quantrill
Tom Gordon
Mariano Rivera

Of course pitching!! Their big target is Carl Pavano but he said he isn't that thrilled with New York. They need one super stud pitcher and one decent guy. I think you have to add Duque into that mix even though he's on his last gasp. Just have a backup plan in case of injuries like this year.

They need a solid lefty specialist in the bullie. Perhaps Karsay will help out in the bullpen.

If you really wanted the SICK lineup, is there any super speedy 2nd baseman's out there with awesome D and a high on base percentage. He could be the leadoff guy to set the table for murderer's row.

How about Ichiro? Then, we could add Bonds for late inning pinch hits and occasional DH. I think Gagne would fit in nicely for the setup man. Maybe Randy Johnson could be the lefty specialist.

Bernie, Sierra, and Giambi rotating the DH when Giambi and Olerude flip-flopping donny's corner.

I'd trade brown, quatrill, sturtze, gordon, for a dominant number 1(randy johnson) and 2 mid-relievers.
My rotation would be Lieber, Moose, Johnson, Duque.
I'd love to see Perez, Vasquez, and another hard throwing righty capable of pitching maybe mulder from SF (possible 5th man rotation) and a setup man for rivera. Another hard throwing 1-2inning pitcher coming at a different angle (lefty, sidearm righty).

Ok, lets be realistic, Ichiro = no, Bonds = no, Johnson = probably not, Gagne = definitely not.

As for lefty's, Odalis Perez, 27 (7-6 | 3.25 ERA | 128 SO | 44 BB | 196.1 IP)
Hes young and looks pretty solid, he will get the run protection he would need to help him out.

Jaret Wright, 28, RHP (15-8 | 3.28 ERA | 159 SO | 70 BB | 186.1 IP)
Another young and solid pitcher.

Brad Radke, 31, RHP (11-8 | 3.48 ERA | 143 SO | 26 BB | 219.2 IP)
Alittle older, but he is solid to the bone and can go 7-8 innings. 143/26 thats an awesome ratio there. Now that I think about it, with the right team he could be in contention to win the Cy Young.

Eric Milton, 29, LHP (14-6 | 4.75 ERA | 161 SO | 75 BB | 201.0 IP)

And if the Yankees go into dire straits like they tend to do with pitching...
Al Leiter, 38, LHP (10-8 | 3.21 ERA | 117 SO | 97 BB | 173.2 IP)

I was being sarcastic....

;)

I wouldnt get rid of Gordon, hes a solid reliever and Sturtze comes in and does a good job too.

Gordon isn't a solid reliever. His release point is almost exactly the same area where mariano throws from. And to be honest, Gordon's fastball is predictable. All hits off of him are seeing eye shots. You see Gordon 2 innings, and then see Mariano throwing only slightly harder but with only a cut fastball. Do you want to know why Mariano was so effective? His setup man was Jeff Nelson. We are talking sidearm sling with alot of movement and alot of pop. You watch that for 2 innings and your guessing when you come to Mariano. Thats where his over the top fastball eats you up. When he started learning how to throw other pitches like the cutter and his slider, he was more effective when he had control of his pitches. Versus now he looses the location but has a better strikeout selection. These are qualities that a closer SHOULDN'T have. A closer is there to close. Shut the door's on their opponents. Not try to out guess them by throwing them a down and away slider. You pitch them up and in on the hands. You break their bats. I've played baseball 13yrs of my life into college as a d2 pitcher before I hurt my arm. I wasn't throwing in the 90s, but I had the location and control to throw whatever i wanted.

With his 2/4seam fastball he was eating people up and in. Now he's painting corners where batters can extend their arms and hit him. He loses the control/location when he has a greater arsenal of pitches. Dump the slider, go back to 2/4seam up and in. Cutter in on lefty's. acquire a different setup man with a different release point and you have your old Mariano back.

I know he's old but Randy Johnson is my personal preferred #1 choice to get. He really wanted to go to New York but the Yanks couldn't muster up the prospects; plus, he really despises Schilling and would long for the day to stick it up his ass in a playoff encounter.

He's a lefty too! Boy... I get pumped thinking about it. He's still got some fuel left in that long arm.

3 way trade????

Is there any chance Beltran doesn't sign with the Yankees? His idol is Bernie as they are both from Puerto Rico. Plus, his startling playoff run has about priced him out from everybody except the Big Green Machine.
