Honestly Brian, being a die-hard yankees fan and naive is two different things. If the redsox beat the yankees, why aren't they capable of beating the astros? You say that if the yankees win, they'd win it all? But if the redsox beat the yankees, doesn't that mean we could beat the astros? Your logic makes no sense. I'm a huge redsox fan, we've simply outplayed you the past 3 nights. We want it more than you do. Yankees are not getting the timely, clutch hits you were getting the first 3 games and let's face it, yankee pitching is worn out and Boston is finally scoring runs. It has been a great series and if the yankees do lose, what makes you think we can't take it? The redsox just want it more, plain and simple. |
because the redcox cant win until 2018.
the end.

1. Because whoever wins this series may be too worn out to win this whole thing
2. I won't count out the cards...not just yet |

True and True. Example: last year... don't you think the mini-world series affected the Yanks against Florida?
St. Louis won 2 home games. Houston won 3 home games. St. Louis is one of the most raucous places. Could very well be St. Louis.

I think both teams want it equally, they're tied 3-3. I don't think it's an issue regarding who wants it more. Timely/clutch hitting is just about executing better, not about wanting it more. That's a slap in the face to the Yankees. These teams are quite obviously evenly matched. The Red Sox want to break the curse and win a championship; the Yankees don't want to be that team that allows Boston to beat them, and win a championship.
Wasn't it destined for game 7 all along? |

| You mentioned 1 key word. 'Clutch'. I dont think there has been another team in baseball more clutch than the Yankees when it comes to the playoffs. |

This has nothing to do with being naive. The redsox are not "outplaying" the yankees. Yes I am a die-hard fan, yes I will root for Astro's to beat the Cards and the sox. My logic makes great sense ala Die-Hard Yankee Fans. If we lose to the sox by mere simplistic logic the Astro's will beat the Redsox..DONT YOU GET IT..ahem ahem ala Die-Hard Yankee Fan. So before you quote me on being naive I think you should consider MY logic. Yes the series is GREAT! The best thing that has came to baseball this rivalry has generated a huge interest into the sport (whether people are frontrunners or not) Atleast they pay tribute to the sport. Look at basketball...WHO WATCHES THE KNICKS? But the Yankees, they're moving the crowd right now. Bandwagon jumpers or die-hard fans, it doesn't matter. How many people in NYC had bought an article of clothing representing the team? Better yet, How many stores are selling Yankee Merchandise? Ok here's another one...HOW MANY STREET VENDORS ARE SELLING KNOCK OFF YANKEE STUFF? That one simply takes the cake...oh yea btw its the team playing baseball representing NY that is doing this.
Ok now about being outplayed. Explain to me how they have outplayed them? When you outplay a team you dominate them. look at the words...OUT and PLAY. you play so good they can't ever beat you or compete on your level. be serious now since im offended! If Ortiz was playing a position and swinging the bat like he does then I'd give him respect. BUT He don't play the field (MVP..give me a break he just swings a bat) Manny? So his fielding is outplaying the Yanks? As an overall player, he is doing his best to dominate the yankees? I think not. The only one who deserves ANY credit from Boston is Schilling. The guy's ankle is all ed up and he shut up Yankee Stadium last night in a pivotal game against the Yankees. Now thats stepping up to the plate...thats OUTPLAYING the Yankees. As a whole I think the Redsox are pest. They nitpick at their run manufacturering. I'm not trying to discredit their current line of success nor am I validating New York's current slump but cmon now be realistic. They are a team of average players playing average ball against an average Yankee pitching squad who are suffering with their bats.
I'm not sure what reasoning/logic you have conjured up but the fact of the matter is, is that boston has been getting that "1 run" they need in game 4 and 5. Game 6 they won with an opposite field poke which if you review carefully wasn't hit solid. When you hit to the opposite field your weight should be on your back leg. I know this cuz I'm lefty. You hit the ball in the middle of the plate. In bellhorn's homer, he slapped it sorta defensively. When you really hit a homerun like a real DRIVE homerun you notice the ball will travel off the bat much more square then bellhorn did. Compare Bernie's upperdecker last night to Ortiz's homerun? If you watch Ortiz swing he has a hole in his swing. He swings long to the ball, not short to the ball. Meaning he has a huge sweeping swing leaving UP and IN vulernable. He's connected many times its true, just he hasn't proven to me that he is a hitter that I(as a pitcher) would be scared of. You know the quote - the bigger they are the harder the fall.
And to address the redsox just want it more, maybe because you guys aint get it. It's like disappointment after disappointment and the one time there is success, you feel obligated to downplay the opponent. As a true Yankee fan I'd love to see them make the WS, especially against the Astros. The Astro's lineup is pretty solid. As for the cards, Pujols is the only one who scares me. The stros killer B's are deadly that 4 bats swinging I wouldn't go up against them...the only downfall Astro's have is no pitching.
Oh and since ur from boston maybe you can help divulge some information that I've been pondering about your team. Does Boston have any haircutters? Or is it the wicked thing to do?

True, most people like the underdogs and you either love the Yankees or hate them, there's no in between. Someone said it's like rooting for Microsoft. However, there's more fans for the Yankees than any other team. I go to a game in Seattle and there will be tons of Yankee fans there. That's why they are good for baseball... because it stirs the pot.
Believe my ass... why does that sound like a twinge of doubt? You can believe but Yankee fans know. |

Clutch has barely anything to do with being 'clutch' and everything to do with luck. If Jeter comes up in the bottom of the ninth (who everyone says is THE clutch hitter in the postseason) and Foulke pitches great... guess what? No clutch for Jeter. 'Clutch' hits, just like any other hit, has more to do with the players skills and luck than any other x-factor.
As for everything else that's been going on in this thread... For a while, it got really interesting with some good baseball talk and some good observations. Now it's just all -talking again. What happened?
And Brian, Members of X is right. The more tired a sinker baller is, the more the sinker sinks. So Lowe and Brown may both pitch great tonight because they are both on short rest.
One more thing, expect to see Pedro and/or Schilling out of the pen if it comes down to that. Francona may go with Pedro as his closer tonight, rather than use Foulke for a 5th straight day. But stranger things have happened and Foulke has been lights out.
At any rate, should be a very interesting game. By the way, I was wondering where all the brooms went from earlier in this thread? |

Mr. Clutch, Derek Jeter, hasn't been that clutch so far. The only guy I'm certain is clutch is Michael Jordan, and he can't swing the bat, although he tried miserably.
My point is the same, clutch is about execution, not effort. That means skill. You have more skillful players, you have more clutch players. See ball, hit ball.. some do better than others.
Put Barry Bonds on the Yanks and see what happens. Put Randy Johnson and see what happens. Talent = execution = clutch hits/pitching = win. I think the Red Sox and the Yanks are so evenly matched they play 26 innings in 2 days. Right?
The Yankees bad pitching obviously caught up to them so no sweep. Hey, slap me silly because I didn't foresee the Bo Sox coming back. They did, I can deal with it. It's not life or death to me. Believe me, my other sports teams have choked plenty, I know the feeling.
But a game 7 for the non yankee fan makes it so exciting. WOW.. being in New York for this is awesome. Can't you just feel the energy from everybody walking around... it's buzzing!
Pedro will definitely relieve tonight. So will El Duque I think.
I'm time warping Kevin Brown back to 1999. Wallah.... |
