Faulke the Yankees.
I think when we beat the yankees at fenway park and take the [WORLD] series we should chant out "1918". Kinda like when the North defeated the South at Gettysburg they chanted out "Fredricksburg" the major battle they had lost.

I disagree with your opinion but I don't call it ridiculous because we can have varying points. History has nothing to do with present? I totally disagree. Losing to the same team year after year never plays into the mind of a team? The Rams losing to the 49ers 18 straight times didn't get into their heads? As Ken Norton said at the time "same sorry ass lambs." Believe me, I know it did, because the players said so! "I'm tired of getting beat by them again and again." Or how about Schilling himself saying some teams are scared of the Yankees just because of who they are. They have the doubt in the minds. How about Damon saying that the A's team of 2001 started thinking "We're about to beat the defending World Champion Yankees." Boom, they choked. NO, don't tell me that history has NOTHING to do with it. BULL it does. Things can change, yes, that's true and it could very well be this year. So, we'll see shall we.
Yes, teams are judged by championships they won. Just ask the "team of the 90's" the Atlanta Braves.
Not simply 1961 but having won in 1961, 1962, 1965, 1977, 1978, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 has something to do with it YES! |
I never said that. I said that the past has nothing to do with the present. You don't think that the Yankees are thinking "Man... we have to beat them again?" Everyone knows that this years Red Sox team is much better than last years. And that's saying a lot considering that last year, a lot of Sox had much better years than they did this year. Also, the Sox scored more runs this year and allowed less runs this year than the Yankees did. I know that doesn't mean much to the general public, but I thought I'd throw that out there anyway. |

It's called luck. You should look into it.
For example... Ben Sheets had a 2.70 ERA, an Opponents Batting Average of .226, a WHIP of 0.98, 10 K's per 9 innings, a K/BB ratio of 264/32, yet had a win - loss record of 12 - 14.
Meanwhile... Jon Leiber had an ERA of 4.33, OBA of .301, WHIP of 1.32, 5 K's per 9 innings, a K/BB ratio of 102/18, but somehow managed to go 14 - 8.
Who's the better pitcher? Ben Sheets, obviously. Yet because Lieber is luckier and had more run support, he has the better record. |
