McCain campaign claims they did vet Palin, and even did an FBI background check. FBI disagrees

Palin And The FBI Background Check -- Updated
01 Sep 2008 01:52 pm
The Federal Bureau of Investigation did not participate in the vetting of Gov. Sarah Palin and did not conduct a background check as part of the process, an FBI spokesman said today.
The Washington Post reported Sunday, citing an interview with campaign manager Rick Davis, that the vetting process "included reviews of financial and other personal data, an FBI background check and considerable discussion among the handful of McCain advisers nvolved in the deliberations.
"In general, we do not do vetting for political campaigns except as it might regard investigations needed for security clearances," said John Miller, the chief FBI spokesperson.
The FBI did not participate in a vet, nor did it run a background check of Gov. Palin as part of the process.
Palin might already have a clearance that relates to her duties as governor. But the FBI can't speak to that, and in any event, those investigations wouldn't be accessible to the McCain campaign anyway.

Cambpell, as fine as she is, is flat wrong on her assertions about a governor's role in commanding the Guard. towards the end of that vid dude was not going to play gotcha, and i thought he held fairly well.
her intention was to trivialize the role governors mandate but she really has no idea.
when Federally "upped", governors still have the option of retaining forces they feel they might need but seldom ever turn down requests by the Pentagon. even then Governors still have the role of CINC in charge of movement, training, funding/budget ect. of forces thay do retain. in her case, NG forces primarily deal with missle defence and missile shield stuff. and hers is the only NG in a state that borders two countries, Russia and Canada.
Lebezniatnikov
You have to be kidding me with that Russia crap. Q, I thought you were better than that. That's like saying Florida's governor has foreign policy experience because they border Cuba. Actually, that's a MUCH better argument.

Why can't the GOP ever answer a question??
It's also hilarious to see a her, Bachman, try to play the sexist card and fail miserably.
It's entertaining to watch these people try to defend Palin when they have no specific examples to use. They just keep making generic statements about how qualified she is.
If she accepts the nomination and goes the distance McCain will lose in a landslide. If she bows out and McCain has to choose a replacement his judgment argument goes out the window and he loses in a landslide.

Ok here's some specifics outlined in an article:
"As the chief executive of the nation's largest state, Ms. Palin oversees some of the country's largest energy reserves. She came into office at a critical time in Alaska politics, facing a system plagued by corruption. Her response was to immediately begin cleaning it up. The results of her leadership today speak for themselves: Ms. Palin's approval ratings top 80% -- more than 60% higher than that of the Democratic Congress.
Ms. Palin has a tangible, impressive record of achievement and executive experience. She is head of the Alaska National Guard and the chairman of two multistate agencies that make energy decisions that affect all Americans. While Barack Obama spent almost all of the past two years running for president, Ms. Palin has been running a state.
She has transformed her state's government from what she called a "good ol' boys network" to an accountable, successful system. Like Mr. McCain, Ms. Palin realizes that the problem isn't a Republican administration or a Democratic Congress. It's business as usual in Washington. She stood up to members of her own party who abused their power, risking her political career by protesting ethics violations. Ms. Palin went on to pass ethics reform. She has put the people's interests ahead of her own.
In a state where energy production is a top priority, Ms. Palin is an expert in the field. She has never shied away from challenging the influence of big oil companies, all the while fighting for the development of new energy resources. Ms. Palin worked with Democrats and Republicans to institute a rebate that used the state's vast oil revenues to help offset the high costs of fuel and heating in the state.
Ms. Palin has been a leader in the fight for American energy independence. Like Mr. McCain, she understands that we need an "all of the above" solution to secure our energy future. Her influence extended far beyond Alaska as she recently pushed through a gas pipeline project that will bring new supplies and lower prices to the lower 48 states."

that's a bit misleading - who cares about the geographical size, california is the only state that can really say it is the 'largest state'.

How is a 'hockey mom' an expert in energy production? seriously, politicians throw around the word 'expert' much too frequently.

the first sentence is ok, however, the second sentence gives the public the wrong incentives - I'm against that policy.

ok - but that's everyone's position during this term.

This video is hilarious and I really hope it become viral. It's not dated, that I can see, but it was obviously taped before the pick. Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan mock as ridiculous the possibility of Sarah Palin being named McCain's running mate.
What's more, they go on to dismiss the idea that her qualifications are anywhere near Obama's as Obama has been on the national stage a long time and running and excellent campaign who "validated himself with 18 million votes." And beating everyone, including knocking out Hillary.
They also blast the idea of Palin as a Hillary substitute as silly and state it would be seen as "condescending" to women.
This is perfect antithesis to the GOP talking points that have obviously made the rounds in the last few days. The talking heads, including Buchanan sure changed their tunes quickly

In that regard, true... CA, TX, FL, and NY are juggernauts in population. But in another regard, Alaska's economic importance is at the top because of how much energy it supplies the continental US

Why does the "hockey mom" title keep being thrown out there? who cares if she was a hockey mom before getting into politics. That doesn't play at all into what she's doing today, other than helping a lot of average people relate to her. As governor, she is personally responsible for management of the energy industry in her state. Would you call Obama a pot head because he spent the last 2 years of high school "in a daze," as he mentioned in his book "Dreams of My Father"? Would you call Regan a 2-bit actor because he was in hollywood before politics?

haha.. that video is pretty funny. I actually like that Palin is different than hillary. She represents everything Hillary isnt: a woman who can balance everything from kids to work to school, keep her husband in check, and doesn't need to ride the coat tails of her man to get ahead in politics. She's done it all on her own with no help... without affirmative action or some other government assisted program. The only thing Hillary ever had charge of while Bill was president was "hillary care" which was a disasterous failure. Other than that task, she ran for her senate seat with being first lady as her experience. This is why I think the hardcore feminists don't like Palin. It's like she isn't a woman by their standards because she wears a dress, doesn't want abortions, and lovingly supports her family

alaska is not even close to the top in economic importance. sure, alaska has oil reserves, but that's about all it has. WHile important, energy production is a small piece of the US economy. Furthermore, the goal of both the obama and mccain campaigns is to reduce oil consumption, so alaska's relative importance will wane over time.

because in order to be an 'expert' in a field she most likely would need to have prior experience in the field. However, she claimed to be a simple hockey mom as opposed to a geologist or petro engineer. she is hardly an expert in oil production because she is governor of alaska for a year. does her governorship also make her an expert in other alaskan things like: inuet traditions, polar bears, the northern lights, mount mckinley, and humback whale migrations? Obviously not!
