She and Mccain truly belong together.

For christ's sake, why are people taking this so out of context? You guys are getting desperate. Palin says that she supports putting Georgia and the Ukraine in NATO... Once they're in NATO and if they're attacked, we might — stress might — have to defend them. But obviously a major part of the reasoning in letting them join NATO is that it might make Russia less likely to attack, no?

quote:
GIBSON: Would you favor putting Georgia and Ukraine in NATO?

PALIN: Ukraine, definitely, yes. Yes, and Georgia.

GIBSON: Because Putin has said he would not tolerate NATO incursion into the Caucasus.

PALIN: Well, you know, the Rose Revolution, the Orange Revolution, those actions have showed us that those democratic nations, I believe, deserve to be in NATO. Putin thinks otherwise. Obviously, he thinks otherwise, but...

GIBSON: And under the NATO treaty, wouldn't we then have to go to war if Russia went into Georgia?

PALIN: Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help.

Guess who else favors putting the Ukraine and Georgia in NATO? Obama and Biden. Here is Biden in December: "The time has come for the trans-Atlantic community to show unity and commitment. The administration should seek and our NATO allies should provide commitments to offer MAPs [Membership Action Plans] to Georgia and Ukraine at the next NATO meeting in December."

Let this crazy **** go back to the hockey rink where she and her dysfunctional hick family belong.

ing nut.

Nuclear WW 3 an option on the table? oh yeah, I forgot, she's really an expert on Russia, since (her words) "you can see Russia from land here in Alaska," so yeah she knows quite a bit.

That was truly terrifying.

On the other hand, I thought McCain did wonderfully in the service forum airing on the cable news channels. Definitely even with Obama there.

But wow, Palin = horrifyingly hawkish. Guess that goes to show what two weeks of foreign policy cramming with the neocons who were too crazy even for the Bush administration gets you.

Terrifying? how is she horrifyingly hawkish in her comments?

I agree watching the video that she really doesn't convince me that she is necessarily up to the task of running this country.

What I guess bugs me is that every interview I see recently there is almost a condescension as if it's a loaded question..."you can't possibly have the experience, can you?" "Oh, you poor little bird...do you know what this big ugly world is all about?" It's like he's talking down to a third grader with loaded questions.

Since the debate seems to be Palin's limited executive experience vs. Obama's limited congressional experience, why don't I feel like Obama gets that same condescending treatment or question of readiness and experience to the same extent? Is it sexism? Is it the media's ongoing love affair with him? Call me crazy, I just feel like there's a bit of a double standard here. in' bugs me. I hate politics.

...and then I watch chapter 17 (a,b & c) and am reminded of just how critical energy is and I want to give her a little more leeway on the energy aspect and how important it is. This could be her biggest attribute...

She really bugged me when she said the old "Nuke-u-lar". But I also noticed that at 6:06ish on the Gibson tape, the interview is clearly edited, which I find a bit curious. Notice the frame change--something isn't right. I don't know if it happened more than once in the tape--I just happened to pick up on that editing. Could've been some editing around 7:32 as well.

Also, in the 9:00ish talk about Pakistan/cross-boarder action, it could be edited. But regardless, I feel like Obama gave a very similar answer in the O'Reilly interview, so I just want to keep that in perspective.

She's definitely hawkish. I almost feel like she's being hawkish because she feels like she has to or the way the questions are asked, she almost has to assume a more hawkish position. Ugh.

On a side note, could Palin and Gibson have possibly sat any closer together??? I mean talk about footsie...

A couple of thoughts.

On Georgia, she went the Randy Scheunemann route, which I suppose could have been expected. But she plays very fast and loose with the notion of going to war. As Andrea Mitchell said tonight, Palin was wrong to categorically say the United States must "never blink." Diplomacy, after all, as Chris Hill could attest to as a result of the Six-Party Talks with North Korea - requires some blinking on both sides. She threw away all other options tonight.

On the Bush Doctrine, pundits are giving her a free pass tonight (because they didn't know what it is either?) - but that's the fundamental premise emanating from the Bush administration. You think Andrew Jackson didn't know what the Monroe Doctrine was? If you have any remote interest in foreign affairs, you know what the Bush Doctrine is. And her answer suggested she wasn't even aware Doctrines existed!

And did she really use her ability to see Russia from the coast of Alaska as a credential on national security?

However, on Pakistan, Palin gave an answer that is a radical departure from the McCain campaign. In fact, she agreed with Obama - that strategic attacks at Taliban targets in Pakistan are not off-limits. McCain has been hammering at Obama on that since the General Election phase of this campaign opened up... and she just completely contradicted that message.

Which again begs the question - why in God's name did he pick her?

I'm going to stay away from the religious aspect, though that chilled me as well. Can you imagine this woman as leader of the free world?

It was hard to believe this was the same Charlie Gibson who brought us this debacle of impartial moderating:

anyone else think Charlie's demeanor seemed overly serious and almost like he was semi-angry when talking to her? I can't be sure but it seemed like he was trying way too hard

trying way too hard? what is that supposed to mean? you'd prefer if the press continues to handle your candidate with kid gloves?

Are you ever going to post anything substantial about the issues about you candidate?

Shakka elevated the debate on McCain this afternoon and you're going to sit here and complain about the way the press is treating her?

No no... the press' job is to handle Obama with kid gloves and toss the softballs at him, which is what they do so nicely. But what I meant was that it seemed like he was trying too hard to be serious in his demeanor for the cameras, not trying too hard to inverview her on issues. Why do you keep calling me out to mention issues anyway? I've discussed issued many times over the past months. There's just nothing new to talk about today regarding so called issues. What issue do you want me to talk about? If you have a specific quesiton about one I'll be glad to answer as best as I can.

And I'm not complaining on how the press is treating her, my complaints are usually about how they DON'T treat Obama.

Palin is unqualified. End of story. Are we to expect her to go face to face with Putin? China? Not even 2 years as governor, mayor of a small town. We're supposed to believe a self-pronounced small-town hockey mom to be this close to ruling the largest economy and military in the world. Just that close to the nuclear button...
