The NO on Prop 8 thread.... (pg. 3)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and play the devil's advocate.
First things first, I don't care about this Prop and will not be voting on it either way. Yeah, society has treated the LGBT culture unfairly and for too long, but I will argue that Prop 8 is not a 14th Amendment issue. Also, a good friend of mine who is in his forties and has been gay all his life, will also not be voting on the Prop 8. He made a good point to me on this issue, one that I would like to highlight with a quote from another TA:

"I straight ask em to come in and take off their clothes, the reaction is precious...You should see what I do to right wing christian republican loons, well I never get to it cuz they quickly notice am not white and ran for the hills."

I thought that RDP unions are treated the same as a marraige, in regard to financial records, insurance beneficiaries, etc. All the rights afforded to a married couple are afforded to a RDP couple, right? If not, please explicate the exact differences and what would change if Prop 8 was passed.

He stated that there is no need for marriage to be redefined nor altered, for this prop is just a way "The Family" is sticking it to "The Man". As the poster put it, there is a sense of pleasure that I have noticed that permeates the LGBT culture when the right wing gets mad at any changes (which are sometimes needed and at times very beneficial to everyone) to the status quo. So what is the root of the message that a NO on Prop 8 is sending to everyone? If RDPs are legally recognized as a bonafide union, guaranteeing both partners all the rights afforded to a married couple, then why change the definition? It this only a matter of linguistics?

exactly...i think you hit it on the head - and this is why this is so important to vote NO on prop 8. this is the same arguement as...whites drink from this fountain and blacks have to drink from the other fountain...it's the same water though, right?

and since you say "whatever" this means you will vote no on prop 8 because you wouldn't want me to force you to be Muslim if you are a Christian.

its amazing how marriage got redefined from man and woman, to man and man or woman and woman, what's next? man and dog?

I've got children, and it is wrong for schools to want to teach this to kids.. they are empty vessels.. they will be victimized with confusion. I'm sure alot of people will agree with me..actually based on what was passed years ago, millions agree with me.

by the way, it is Christianity that allows you to do what you will.. if you were in a Muslim country trying to pull this stuff.. you know where you'd be..

like the atheist once said, "THANK God, there is no god".

First off, are you accepting the total bull that they will be teaching little kids this? If so, you fail at life. They don't teach sex ed till middle school, when you are already formulating your own opinions. Get off your bull high horse about teaching 5yr olds and think about this logically.

Also, EVERY religion, Islam included, teaches to be tolerant of others views, religious practice, etc. If you are a good religious person, you are not supposed to pass judgment, persecution, force your beliefs upon others, etc. So by voting yes on this, you are committing a sin in the eyes of your god.

And to the definition. If you are a moron, then you can deduce that the next step is legalizing marriage between animals, but any logical person knows that is a totally unfounded argument.

There isn't any real argument here, its just wrong. (simple)

Do as you will..which is what Christ left open to anyone who wants to do what they want, free will.

The fact that you are showing complacency in allowing others to live as they please is the exact reason we are in this position.

What's wrong? Does anyone remember a little thing called "separation of church and state"? If this is so "wrong" in religion's eyes then why is the government even getting involved? Everyone that claims God or Jesus or whomever wouldn't want this shouldn't even use that as an argument because God/religion shouldn't even be involved in government.

Like Duke Nukem says, "Let God sort em out".

No to prop 8 imo. If gays want to get married and be miserable, I say let them!

Words of wisdom!

You can't teach a dumb dog new tricks. Religious people are the dumb dogs for the most part. They think they are all right, and that because their god said so, that everyone should be forced to believe as them.

Things are finally starting to heat up in this thread!

I just don't understand what the big deal is really. How is gay people getting married infringing upon anyone else's rights? Totally blows my mind.
